  1. If I understand this right, you say that a list should be posted in the private thread, then we contact the people on that list to see if they want to be in the voting thread. Once we get an answer from everyone, then move to the public view voting? If that is what you meant, just here to say that is how it is done now. The past few rounds have been changed to work like that, and (until this one) I personally sent out the PMs to potential mods.
  2. I voted no here. Staff pick new staff because of the tools moderators are given to complete modreqs. They are not something that is trusted to just anyone, which is why discussion happens to see if a person could handle these tools maturely. I can personally tell you that removing someone from staff is not fun or easy. It isn't as simple as saying "you're out, tough", it comes with its own load of heartache and drama. I'm not saying that I think the community couldn't pick some good mods, but I also think it would turn into a popularity contest, and that is not always good. In discussion threads, I've personally voted against friends of mine, because I don't think they would have done well in the role. Before I got on staff, I think there was more of a problem of people just getting friends on staff, because they could. Over the years, I think staff has done a great job of being objective in picking new staff. There are a couple players that I would have liked to have seen, but many times they do not make it because they have done something that causes staff to hold off for some time (to make their nomination be not so close to some trouble the player caused). Before we were able to get to the next round, the player did something else again (often in response to not being made mod in the last round). The reason staff has always stuck to the don't-ask-we'll-ask-you policy is that it helps weed out the power hungry people. The ones who've been playing a week who ask how to become a mod. There isn't a set goal or criteria, per se. It is when the staff who deals with you day in and day out (being just normal gameplay, or by dealing with your modreqs) realize that you are active and helpful to the community, that's when you get brought up in a nomination thread. I've been asked before why the hermits never get mod: Because they keep to themselves and don't actively help other people. Sorry for the wall of text, I know some of that may be off-topic, but I still think the way it currently works is the best way.
  3. It does make sense. I want the punishment for it to be severe enough to deter doing it. Serious things have serious consequences. It is the reason there is a full rollback on x-ray, it is serious and staff wants the punishment to make people think twice before doing it. If people know that their alt will be forever unusable if they evade a ban with it, they are less likely to evade a ban with it. If they know "oh, I can use this while I'm banned, as long as I don't let anyone know it is me. If anyone catches me, I'll be banned another week", to me, that seems like it is worth the risk. Then you will have players who are never really banned. And it isn't paying for an unban, you have to have that main account unbanned before any new alts can play or they will be permanently banned too. It's not forcing you to buy anything, because that main account got unbanned. If you feel you need another account to play with, then yes, that is on you. But as you said, what can you do on Barneybot that you can't do on Barneygale? Why do you need the alt account? Just play on the unbanned account, and enjoy it.
  4. You are unbanned (I know, I was there), and are fully capable of playing on our servers. That is the category you fall in. The alts are just "toys" as Will said, and yours were taken away because you misused them. As you said, you are welcome to get new ones, if you feel that is something you need, but it does not prevent you from running around and playing on the servers. We all regret things we've done, but sometimes you just have to deal with the consequences.
  5. I know I've heard techs are looking into things, but sometimes it just acts crazy. I know p used to have crazy issues back in like revs 7-9. Many of the problems there were mob related. I know C had made some changes recently, maybe some of the added features are causing troubles. I don't remember, was compass enabled? I know it was never enabled previously due to lag issues. Keep in mind I'm just throwing ideas out here.
  6. I was never for doing a permaban on a "main" account, because I know people can change. Also there was already several cases before I was on staff where people were permanently banned, yet unbanned later. It completely went against its definition. Also, if people know there is no chance to return, they have no reason to hold back or act mature. With extended bans (which I tried to work towards), players have some goal to work towards, some measurable amount of time to mature. Now, I say all that to say this: I agree with the sentiment that alt accounts are a tool (often used to afk at grinders), and a privilege which can be revoked if you misuse the tool. The staff punishes people who circumvent any plugins in place; be this world guard, lwc, or even mcbouncer. Using an alt account to evade a ban circumvents mcbouncer, and I feel that it deserves the punishment of revoking the privilege of using that alt account. These are my thoughts, take them as you will.
  7. As I've seen before, some issues are location based (though not all). Approximate locations of where you were can help eliminate possible problems.
  8. -I think we've tried some anti-xray plugins before, but it caused some stability issues at the time. Trying again couldn't hurt though. -As for adding gsand, I hear that causes small children to cry, and dreams to burst. I suggest against this addition. :D
  9. I removed some below me that I know are no longer staff. Some of them, I do not know who they are, so I left them. If you guys see some below me that need to be removed, let me know.
  10. I'd assume to stop people from just throwing money at the problem, especially when the game was much cheaper.
  11. Say someone logs in after you type that, and are trying to chat to you. They may not know you are afk, and may think you're just being mean. This would ideally be on all servers, so you wouldn't just be able to teleport to them to see if they are in their afk hut.
  12. Well, ideally it would do both. It would return the status of the player. If the player is AFK, it would return the "Player is currently listed as AFK", but if they are not, then "Player is not currently listed as AFK" is returned.
  13. Wayne, I like your idea. I think I'll try to code something up, and see if people like it. Ideally, if someone typed "/afk", it would come up with all possible arguments for the afk system: "/afk toggle" - Sets your status as AFK. This will NOT broadcast anything in general chat. While a player is set to AFK, anyone who messages the afk player, or says their full name in chat, will get a message saying "Player is currently listed as AFK". "/afk list" - This would bring up a list of all players currently listed as AFK. "/afk PlayerName" - This would return one of two options: "Player is currently listed as AFK" and "Player is currently listed as not AFK". I'd like to hear some feedback!
  14. I always knew you loved me crock
  15. I might change my mind later, but for now, I'm standing by what I said.
  16. A tech can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is currently due to the fact that you're allowed to be vanished outside of modmode on C as a mod. This change would remove that permission from the Player Entity, thus forcing to unvanish when leaving Modmode Entity.
  17. It actually looks at each piece of gear (and any enchants on it) to form a gear score for the player, no matter if it is leather/iron/gold/chain/diamond. Then, it takes into account the total gearscore and PvP Rating for each player, and changes ratings for both the winner and the loser. That way, even assuming same gear, if one player has a higher rating (implying they are better at PvP, not just better geared), the higher rating person wouldn't gain much from a win, while the lower rating person would gain much more (since statistically he should have lost). Total gearscore comes into play as well. Assuming equal rating, if an undergeared person wins, they will gain more points than if the overgeared person one.
  18. I started writing a PvP Rating system similar to ELO that would change ratings based on the gear each player was wearing (to prevent killing un-armored players) and based on each player's Rating at the time of the battle. I can go into more specifics if anyone wants, but the point is that it is in java, and would run in game, so would be able to tie into something like this. I personally like the idea.
  19. I like Unce's idea (https://nerd.nu/forums/index.php?/topic/2254-congratulations-on-100k-total-server-bans/?p=16004). We're looking to it as a possibility.
  20. It seems he just has a typo in his forums account: Ban for pwnolarbear on c.nerd.nu for xray on P nerd.nu/appeal by tompreuss on 2014-03-09 18:32:54 (no more bans, 2 notes) Please wait for tompreuss to handle your appeal. If he has not responded in 48 hours, feel free to bump this thread. We appreciate your patience.
  21. I thought you said: But anyway, this was already answered by Mrloud15: Random had received no such warning beforehand.
