  1. HOW DARE YOU LEAVE ME AFTER ALL WE'VE BEEN THROUGH. I promised myself I wouldn't cry :'(
  2. Not sure if it's possible, but what if players could only fly for a certain amount of time? Just an idea
  3. If you (or anyone else) is looking for a cheap way of doing things, my set up to record is just QuickTime Player (record screen option), Audacity (to record the audio), and iMovie (to edit. When I wasn't on a mac I used the same set up but with Windows Movie Maker). It's a very cheap way of doing things, and the quality is pretty decent (example).
  4. Get outta here switch ;-) When I stepped down from Sadmin I intended to still stay on staff as a mod, but there must have been some miscommunication and I was removed from staff entirely. But now I'm back as a mod! So I've missed a bit and am trying to catch up. Also for some reason it's always showed member for me when I was a mod. It only changed when I became a sadmin
  5. I wanted to suggest this earlier, but was momentarily removed from moderator so it might be too late/someone else might have suggested it. What do people think of a trailer for the event before an actual announcement is made? It would be relatively easy to make and I wouldn't mind making it.
  6. This would be wonderful. In addition to this, videos could be created for moderator training that were private only for moderators/admins to view. This would save time on training, and give a reference for players to look back at if they don't remember how to do something. Though this might not be the place to discuss that. I agree, a small nerd glasses logo with nerd.nu underneath would be really cool and basic imo. And I agree with one channel, we can separate things through playlists. I think if players knew that we can submit content for uploads, we'd have a lot more content being created here in the community. Although I think there would need to be set standards on what gets in. Maybe something like submitted content have to be in some kind genre: - Montage/Highlight Video - Tutorial Video - Event Video - Lets play (I think this should be a succesion thing if implemented though. For example, an S Lets play would one day be recorded and submitted by me, while the next upload for it might be from rtr. That way we don't have every player trying to create a lets play while also being interesting in the variety that the players see from different perspectives). - Other I agree, hopefully we can see some of these become a reality!
  7. Hmm so it seems you can only view your own t-shirt designs based on JK not being able to view mine and me not being able to view Difficults. Not sure how to get around this, but just imagine a black shirt with the nu glasses on the chest. That was basically it :-)
  8. While nerd.nu is a community built around minecraft (and other games), it still comes down to being a business. Donations from players support the server, which in theory brings in more players and more donations to continue to last. This model is good for the three free to play servers, but with talk of branching out into other servers and even other games, this model could easily fail. [please correct anything I've said here if I was mistaken] So why not push the nerd.nu brand? There are easy ways to get the name of nerd.nu out there, while bringing in a profit, and still being free to play. Here are some easy examples: - T-shirts: http://teespring.com/designs/32fnu7/edit#!/fwwv1jor/15/pricing (I made this in 5 minutes, just an example). Easy to design, easy to buy, easy to get word out in the community. Also free marketing for people seeing the shirt and being curious as to what nerd.nu is. - Streaming/YouTube: We have tons of games going on at any moment, why not put these out there? Streaming is pretty easy to set up, and is a good way to get the nerd.nu tag out there. Streaming events from player perspectives, the Civ matches players put on here, CS:GO, smash, anything we play. People seemed to enjoy the short lets play DementedM0nkey and I did, why not build off of that. Record S areans, events, show off cities, create trailers for hype things like donation drives, there are tons of possibilities in this relatively new market. If we get consistent, twitch sub buttons+profit from youtube could be something else being brought in. - A nerd.nu tag: I'm pretty sure I saw this posted somewhere and I thought it was a cool idea. Why not have a tag? I would have no problems wearing the tag when entering smash tournaments [nerd.nu | dizney]. Even just bringing one person here through wondering what nerd.nu is is one more person we didn't have before. - A nerd.nu "team": Now I don't know a whole lot about e-sports aside from smash, but why not have a nerd.nu "team"? As far as I know we have a ton of CS:GO players, we could probably make a pretty strong team (or not, idk how good these players are lel). I wish I knew more about other games, but I know smash it would be just simply wearing the tag like I had above. It makes people wonder what nerd.nu is, and free publicity is wonderful. I'm not saying try to become TSM or Cloud 9 (those are good e-sports teams right) but we can start something to build off of. These are just some ideas I was throwing around in my head in the shower because I think of ideas in the shower. Think you're too cool to think of ideas in the shower? Well you're not. You're never too cool to think of ideas in the shower.
  9. I guess those options work, but how many different sites and sources do we need to have? I never understood the reason for a uservoice when adding another subforum that's still located in the same place as everything else and is frequently visited seems easier. How many players visit the uservoice consistently? The thread I think is a good step, maybe start it as a thread? I don't want to make a thread with like 8 long responses though. Hmm.
  10. We've seen signs of nerd expanding beyond the C/S/P (and sometimes Chaos) model, but there's still no real place to put our suggestions/ideas. I wanted to request a new sub forum where players can post their ideas, get critiqued, and see what could be popular. Even though I've been inactive as of late, I have quite a few server ideas stored away such as: A guild focused RPG server based around capturing other guilds capitals, an RPG style server based around killing bosses to advance further within the world, an apocalyptic style server based around a world ravaged by nuclear war, a server focusing on underwater survival, and the list goes on. Obviously all have their flaws and we can't have 500 servers, but I think it would be cool to have an area to put ideas without having to clutter the main forum. A simple way that these could be organized: - Idea Name (Topic Title) - PvP/No PvP (Tag) - Poll (Would you play on this server: Yes/No) - Idea Description Also, an idea I had recently that ties into this is to add a 4th community voted server. After ideas are posted in the sub forum, the more popular and feasible ideas could be brought to a community vote to see what gets put into effect. If these server types lasted about 3 months each, and we gave about a month for building/prep time, we could have around 3 different server types be put up in a year. With the change in server types we could also see an increase in new players discovering nerd while adding new and fresh ideas to gameplay.
  11. Hi detective dizney07 here to bring clarity to the recent protests in Gaul over the idea that Nickey is pretending to be a girl through the use of alts or name changes. As you can see, gamergirl is 9 letters. If you take out the two g's we're left with amerirl. "amer" is short for America, and irl is obviously short for in real life. It seems the name is speaking to us. America in real life is a dream that many gerafes face regularly. Kiwi's continue to struggle to get their psychology degree, which tends to prevent them from finding work while Thrax Industries sucks the fuel right out of our system. Fuel? That's right, Jet Fuel. Or jetfuel, as in one word, as in the number 1. Remember how many letters are in gamergirl? 9. 9+1 is 10. 10 Letters. S T E E L B E A M S. So now we're left with Jet Fuel and Steal Beams. But jet fuel was supposed to be one word right? Right. You're taking 2 words and putting them together as one. How many 2's were on the end of the name of gamergirl2251? 2 2's. Tutu's. What do girls wear? Tutu's. That's where the name came from. But now you're wondering where the 5 and the 1 are right? Isn't it obvious; 5-1=4. How many letters are in the word tutu? 4. 4 letters. What are we left with? GG.
  12. Hi dizney07 here, thank you for the chance to interview again! I do have some new questions that my sources have brought to my attention: -What IS a Kiwi? -IS Mumberthrax a licensed doctor? -Who IS tony -Where IS Gaul located? Thanks again for answering these questions!!
  13. Hi there nickey, thanks for being on the show today. I have a few questions regarding a famous author that our sources say you are in frequent contact with: -Is his new book worth the price of $172 and 3 nickels (specifically, 3 nickels)? -Has the artist ever done anything suspicious, like maybe extending his neck much past that of a normal human to be able to eat leaves from trees? -What is your opinion on the newly found floatism? -Can jet beams melt steel fuel? -Are skeletons actually spooky? -We've heard rumors that your alts are actually dizney07, gsand, and rtr69, can you confirm? -Where is your favorite place to eat snowcones with polar bears?
  14. I guess I don't understand the problem with having multiple avenues into Nerd, what exactly is the problem with this? Yes we have multiple areas but it all leads back to the same area it seems. The forums should be our main "hub" in my opinion, everything should lead to here, but I don't think that means deleting the other subreddits.
  15. Imperials. Compare the two home cities of each and decide which you would rather see the country develop into. Now welcome to the imperial army friend :-)
  16. Hey guys, like we’ve said in the past the way Economy is set up isn’t permanent, and we are planning some changes that should be coming soon. We wanted to present what we have first and what we’re going with while taking criticism if something is unwanted or if something can be improved. Chest Shops: We will now allow ChestShops to be created in the overworld. Players will not have to modreq for these like we first expected, and will allow players to create shops wherever they please within their claimed land. Server Shop: The server shop prices have been adjusted as of April 4th. Also spawners have been added in as a purchase item for 50,000 coins. Shops in the server shop will still remain 10,000 coins. When we implement ChestShops into the overworld, we will be removing /shop and /back. To get to the server shop, players will need to walk to spawn and use warp signs to get to and from the shop. The reason for this is to remove safe travel and easy escapes along with making location a valued asset in choosing shop locations. The server shop area will still house the admin shop, meaning you can only sell/buy ores from spawn. Auction: We will be adding in an auction plug in to our economy! This will only be active in the server shop, and will only run through chat in the server shop. Players will be able to put any item up for auction for a set starting price and time. Players can only auction one item at a time. These are the main plug ins and changes we’re going to be implementing as soon as possible. Other things we are looking into is a bank plug in and a different system for PvP money that involves how much money you carry to encourage carrying money while PvP'ing. While these are the updates we’ll be implementing for economy, we have some other updates as well. - For Blood Moon we will be adding in incentive that’ll make Blood Moon something players will want to face for financial gain. - We will either be nerfing or removing stregnth II potions. - Hunger is going to be removed from spawn. - And lastly some regions will be fixed. We plan on having these done as soon as possible, and will post an update when they are complete!
  17. To answer your question, no. Not all questions need to be asked here, however specific questions that could have multiple scenarios and take a bit longer to respond are better here so everyone can see the questions being asked (offline or online at the time of the player asking). For example, Tornadohorse's question in game was "Why can't players sell ores that are being sold by the server". The problem with this is that players can sell items for less than the server, creating an unfair advantage for strictly the buyer and seller at the time. Say a player is selling 4 stacks of diamonds at 40 coins, and the server sells diamonds for 50. A new player who hasn't done anything yet can get on, vote to get coins, kill a few mobs and get the 40 coins quickly. He can then buy a diamond from the player, and sell it back to the server for a 10 coin profit. The seller would end up with 10,240 coins, while the buyer (a player who hasn't began to be productive on the server yet) 12,800 coins. This creates a system where players can get rich off simply sitting at the market (which is popular in other games such as Runecraft's Grand Exchange). We didn't want this to be the case, and wanted to encourage players to actually play the game and not just play the market. As you can see, I wanted to elaborate on just "Players can sell low and sell back to the server" which is why it is better posted here. I probably could have typed that in game sure, but that would mean stopping what I was doing (which was running down the roads looking for PvP) and I would rather not put my self at risk of being attacked mid sentence.
  18. Hey guys, we have some very important news about rev 28, some economy changes and some rule changes as well. Starting with rev 28, we have decided to get the full quality S revision we want, we will be postponing rev 28 until May 2016. While this might upset a few, we know the majority of our very large player base will respect our decision. Also the current map of Chaos will stay up. I know some players have asked for a change, but we believe that there is quite a lot more to explore in the world! To continue with rev 28, we've decided to take a Runescape approach, and remove PvP entirely from the majority of the world. PvP will only be available outside a certain radius of spawn (likely a 1000 block radius) and when you enter these areas you will be assigned a target that is also in the area. We feel this is a good way to help introduce players to the game, giving them a bit of room to really express themselves. We know we might get some negative responses, but we just wanted to say that it will definitely be worth your while to travel outside the radius. The extreme terrain in large mountains and crazy ravines will make PvP more fun and exciting than ever before!! Onto economy, we actually have decided that for a certain amount, players may pay their own money to donate to the server cause. This money will be used directly in advertising and other important purchases. Players who donate will given a decent amount of economy money in game, and this can be done as many times as they want! We're not adopting a pay to win mentality, we're simply adapting to the changing times and giving the players the options to donate if they would like! With Rev 28 being postponed, this gives us a good amount of time to reevaluate the rules and what we want from our player base on S. We've decided to add in some rules that I think will really help the server grow! Firstly, no more troll talk. On S we need to be grammatically correct at all times. Any silly mistake will result in a ban, and an appeal will need to be made. Minecraft is serious business, so lets try and keep it that way. Secondly, we're going to be implementing a new banning policy. From now on if you are banned, you won't be given a set time to be unbanned. The Sadmins will be in full control when (or if) you get unbanned. This way, we can stop silly players from getting banned all the time by just not unbanning them! Lastly, we're now allowing mod and sadmin abuse on the server. It's not fair that we have to do so much for the server and not get rewarded, so any mod or admin can now spawn in their own diamonds. We feel this is necessary and will not discuss it any further. Well I think that's everything! We know some of these changes might be a little off the wall, but we're trying to think outside the box to make S a better server to play on. All of these changes will be implemented today, April 1st 2015. Of course, if you have any concerns or questions just leave them below and we'll get back to you as soon as possible!
  19. I like this, and we're discussing how to make it work. I can't promise we can get it worked out by the time we start up this weekend, but I definitely want to see how we could make it work without it being exploited, and different ways to give incentive to players who carry money. My fear right now would be players not carrying money to avoid loss. Maybe something like a bank tax where over time you lose a very small percent of what you put in, or players carrying money gets a small bit of interest added too it over time. Also would this be only armored fights or would you lose your money when being killed at anytime (say, by stone sword killing an unarmed)? If there are any other ideas please let us know. We talk about every suggestion thoroughly and always take them seriously so please do not hesitate to contact us. Edit: To add to this, we're not afraid to add things in mid rev if we think it's necessary or adds great value to the server, so please do not just save your ideas. Let us know now so we can begin discussions on anything as soon as possible.
  20. When modreq'ing, if a player opens a shop outside they can make one modreq and have the chest shops already made. We would go in and basically just turn the shops on. There wouldn't be a need to make a modreq for every single chest. I don't trust players to not abuse an abusable system because I know how I would play the game. Look at other games that have easy exploits, they're always taken advantage of. In Skyrim I exploited a book to max out every skill, in runescape I abused the grand exchange to make money quick. If it's not hard to do, and it has high reward, it's going to be taken advantage of. If a player has 500 diamonds and sells them cheaper than the server, a player could but the cheaper diamonds, and then sell them to the server to make a profit extremely quickly. All they would need is the amount of one diamond, and then they can become extremely rich. This was the example we actually discussed while designing it this way. Our fear is that if we left the economy naturally, and let players choose to take advantage or not take advantage of the system, then players would abuse the system heavily and there would be nothing we can do. If we changed the econ mid rev to attempt to rectify the economy and make it more balanced players who abused would already be heavily rich. With the system we are going with now, if we feel we can open it up or find other solutions we can change mid rev and open the economy up more. We have a system that's in place that can be changed at anytime.
  21. Closing, if there's any questions or concerns please contact us directly or on the new update post!
  22. Hey guys, after the original announcement of Economy coming to Survival we realized some problems we needed to address before showing every detail of the system at work. Now we feel more stable and ready to announce more details on it, along with some of the changes we’ve made from the original announcement. I’ve broken the announcement up into parts to try and keep things organized and easy to understand. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Server Shop: The “Server Shop” will serve the purpose of a currency exchange. Within this, you can convert certain items into the currency, and convert the currency into certain items. The items that will be available for this exchange are: - Diamonds - Emeralds* - Gold* - Lapis - Redstone * We are aware that emeralds can be acquired through villager trading, and that gold can be acquired through pigmen farming. To make sure this isn’t an issue, villager trades will substitute emeralds for iron (the trades for redstone and lapis will be removed entirely) and the pigmen drops will be modified from gold nuggets to glowstone dust. The Server Shop will also have other items available just for purchase. These are rarer items that can’t be produced, and will be revealed later on. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ways to earn money: There will be three main ways to make money that are built into the server (which means player ran businesses, shops, are not included). These are through Chest Shops, killing mobs, and PvP. Chest Shops: Chest shops are shops that players can fill with an item and sell for a certain price listed on a sign placed on the chest. Players will also be able to purchase a room within the main “Shop” area to create their own shop in a mall like environment. Players can also make chest shops outside of the main shop in the overworld*. Players will NOT be allowed to sell these items in a chest shop: Diamonds, Emeralds, Gold, Lapis, Redstone. *To create a chest shop outside of this mall area, the player will need to create a modreq. This is to avoid exploitation of transferring funds. Killing Mobs: After a player kills a mob, they will have a chance to receive a small amount of money. Each mob will be set to their own percent chance, and will have the value set as well. Mobs spawned in spawners do not have this chance so players cannot abuse grinders to get money. PvP: The system we’ve decided to go with in PvP is that when a player is killed, the money is subtracted from the losers balance, and added to the winners. The amount of money is dependent on the losers armor, not the winners. Meaning a player in Prot 4 Diamond killing a Prot 3 Iron won’t receive the amount for winning a Prot 4 dia fight, but will win the amount you’d receive for an Iron Prot 3 fight. To be able to win the money, both players must be in one of these four armor types: - Diamond Protection 4 - Diamond Protection 3 - Iron Protection 4 - Iron Protection 3 If you are not within these types of armor, no money will be transferred. If you are killed and do not have the amount of money within your balance, the winner receives everything that the loser has until he hits 0 in his balance. To prevent players from dropping their money into alts, /pay will be disabled. This is also why players have to modreq for chest shops in the overworld, and why the purchasing price of server side items will be higher than the selling price. Players can also check the balance of other players to know whether players have the proper funds, and to plan for future attacks. The reasoning behind having the player lose money is to 1) incite a more high risk higher reward with PvP, and 2) prevent players from exploiting PvP to make money. We wanted a system where we wouldn’t have to monitor players to see if they’re abusing the system or just killing their friends since I tend to kill my friends as well (just ask Eehee). PvP Cooldown: To prevent players from killing the same players over and over again, there will still be a PvP cooldown timer. This only applies to armored fights, and doesn’t prevent PvP, however, it prevents players from continuously losing money to the same players. Essentially if two players fight in armor, the loser loses money. If the loser re-suits, tries to fight the winner of the last fight and loses, the loser will not lose money and will only lose whatever armor he took out. If the winner of the first fight loses, that player will lose money like normal and the previous loser’s timer will be reset so the process can continue. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reasons to keep up with funds: We’re obviously not going to force players to keep up with the economy, but there will be quite a few incentives to keeping up with your balance. Events: Some events the server will run will require players to spend their funds to get in. This won’t change anything for the main events such as SAL or the player ran arenas, but some events you’ll want to have funds for. Especially those high roller arena’s, I hear they’re giving out some amazing prices! Leaderboard: We’re working on getting a leaderboard set up based off economy similar to that of the PvP leaderboards. The difference is that the econ leaderboard will not reset like the PvP one will be. We will be adding incentive to be on the top of these leaderboards. Server Shop: Like I mentioned before, the server shop will have unique and rare items for sale that you can’t find anywhere else. I won’t go into anymore details, but it’s highly recommended you check out what’s for sale at launch. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lastly I just wanted to say this isn’t leading into a pay to win server mentality. S won’t become a pay to win server, absolutely none of us are interested in going that route. It won’t even be an option. The reason we opted to go with economy is it can lead into so many different avenues for events, ideas, ways to play, and that it just made sense to add it to a sandbox game. We want what everyone wants, to make S more enjoyable for everyone while being less repetitive. If you have any concerns or questions please leave them below or message us directly, we’d be more than happy to respond!
  23. After talking it over with some players and other sadmins we're discussing the PvP system tonight about exploits. We should have an answer up tonight, and if not it'll be up tomorrow!
  24. To sum it up a little better, we plan on having a set cooldown for money to be received when killing someone. For example if player 1 kills player 2, then player 1 won't receive money for armor killing player 2 again for a set amount of time. The rule is in place however, because we know players have alts, and we know some have many alts. Because of this, we don't want players lining their alts up in a row and killing them to abuse the system. This is why the rule is required, even if we never have to use it. We would rather let people know this is against the rules early rather than have players abuse it and have to fix this later because we know this WOULD be abused. The reason the system itself is in place is because we want PvP to feel more rewarding. This is one of the best systems we discussed where players can actually feel rewarded for winning fights, and can do whatever you please with your winnings instead of getting a broken suit of armor and a few empty bottles.
