  1. "Some fire placed closest to the death points were placed within 15 seconds before the death, suggesting an intent to kill." 1.) If you look again at the logs it should be pretty clear that I was spamming fire everywhere before and after the incident. I made a lot of flint and steel that day. 2.) I remember that the other player was doing the same. There was no indication during the messing about that he wanted to stop or that his health was too low for such dangerous activities. The modreq was a knee jerk reaction to me not giving all the gear back at once. 3.) I may have behaved recklessly, but I'm not lying about the intent to kill and when I say that it was mostly accidental it doesn't mean I'm not accepting responsibility for the outcome. You can rightly say that it still shouldn't have happened, but shit happens when you're goofing around and haven't picked up the mindset of a regular player yet. A months ban would be rather inflexible.
  2. "No killing or trapping other players in any manner except in clearly marked PVP arenas." Obviously it was me and my flint and steel that caused the unfortunate death, but the whole situation is more complex than it seems. 1.) The player who died started setting the fires and then the two of us were goofing around, maybe with the intent to do damage, but not to kill. He had armor as well so I didn't consider it a possibility. 2.) Anyway, after his surprise death he obviously wanted his diamonds back which I complied with, but in thinking the situation was pretty funny decided to tease him by holding out on the rest of the gear. 3.) At which point a mod in the mumble channel told me to give it back or get in trouble, but that was right before a restart and the player in question didn't come back on. 4.) I messaged the player on mumble and also an admin, but got no reply. So I chested the remaining gear. 5.) All was quiet for like two weeks and now this This was all the way back in Feb, around the 20th maybe?
  3. They used to rap? There's some rapping around the 4 minute mark. It's relevant okay.
  4. This informal/unimportant poll was produced by cross referencing the following sources by me without asking anyone if they minded because I'm radicool y'know this is just how I roll: http://nerd.nu/staff/ (active staff) http://nerd.nu/usage/survival/index.php (top 50 users) If I've missed someone or someone doesn't want to be on the list I will try fixing it. edit: I'm being informed of the flaws in my polling since a lot of great staff don't play much bc it's boring, but I just based it on usage STATS. Uh, if I hears someone's name pop up a lot I will add them because I'm easily swayed by peer pressure.

  6. The Didgeridoo is sick: Because thread needs cooler videos:
  7. Between changing computers and forgetting account details I haven't been able to log on for months, but today I came crawling back to S to see how it was doing and here's what I thought: 1. Why does it still say "reddit minecraft" on the little server thumbnail thingy? 2. There are 0 players on a Saturday afternoon. 3. The spawn and the buildings look the same as they do every rev. 4. Can't tell if there are any building projects or if people just stopped playing on here months ago. 5. The only sign of life is chat popup telling me to visit the forums. 6. If I was a new user I'd assume they were as dead as the server. Maybe, that space should be used for more specific info about upcoming events? 7. Open rule book and see that it's 18 pages long (close without reading). 8. Have a super laggy fight with a skelly. 9. Log back in after a bit to find there's now one other person online. 10. But they're afk. 11. Hunger makes finding unclaimed land a nuisance. 12. Despite the difficulty setting there really isn't much of a survival challenge. 13. I can't tell if there are added non-vanilla features, but it's about as boring as vanilla. 14. Wish that this rev could have been more like civcraft or had similarly ambitious features. 15. Log off and go on P bc there are some players there. edit, bonus whinging: log back in a third time and get serious lag where I fall through chunks, rubberband all over the place and can't eat food. #2 die from lag and respawn in "twi and redwalls super secret hotub" which is a super creepy experience. #3 the warp signs at spawn are pretty cool.
  8. I grabbed this in the flash sale, but so far the random matches I've jumped into were bloodbaths. Do any of you fancy playing through the maps in an organised and skilful way? All players welcome, especially those that can show me what skilful play actually looks like in this game. My steam is /id/ridfac and my timezone is European. I'm thinking of having payday as a weekly thing some reasonable hour at the weekend, but shoot away.
  9. That pic was from a power test, I've neatened it up a little since :P
  10. My first PC build which I finished last week: http://imgur.com/a/V3xTs This in an upgrade from an early 00s home desktop which I had to overclock and use 3Danalyze with in order to run Minecraft. Using my new one feels like taking a trip to a future in which everything is superfast and nothing smells like burning plastic.
  11. Has anyone else applied for a place on the Overwatch beta?
  12. Steam: dreaming_stacks Is Payday worth a buy?
  13. The steam group needs to be integrated with the forum and given a higher profile on the subreddit. Polls are cool. Do some polls to find out what games are popular and what kind of events people would like to do. I'd like to see us makes use of hamchi and gameranger, programs which allow you and your computer to run multiplayer games for older games whose servers have shutdown. There are plenty of people hankering after a bit of SWAT 4 or Star Wars Battlefront, but getting them in the same place at the same time can be tricky. Nerd might find a niche setting these things up for people. Specifically, those who don't have much time free for minecraft or games in general really and who want to play stuff they know they like with people they know. These events could produce some good streaming content as well given the untapped nostalgia for multiplayer experiences that are no longer with us. I'd definately watch a twitch that had an active community of new and older players tackling old favourites like the first red faction or far cry. But that's just me y'know. S and "competitive" MC in general are lost causes for many reasons. Divert the resources from that waste of a server slot into developing mcpublic on less stagnant platforms. Pretty please.
  14. I'd like to see an enchant setup which is optimized for PVP. Enchanting kit at lvl 30 should guarantee great PVP gear first time around. Useless enchants, like bane of arthropods, should either be removed entirely or be disabled from applying to diamond tools.
  15. I'd like to see explosive damage and fire spread return. Also a dramatic gunpowder plump.
  16. What a great idea./s
  17. It was a bit of both really. The vote was decisive this time around because the behaviour in question changed minds and this result gave the Hadmin team a way to resolve the issue without bruising Slide's pride.I think we've yet to prove players wanting something is the deciding factor in policy changes on these servers.
  18. Who're the "you guys"? Maybe the comments in this forum present the opinions of individuals and that's why they're inconsistent? Let's imagine that players aren't an amorphous blob of unified disagreement for a second. Not everyone who wanted to vote or debate this topic was aware that the polling thread would suddenly translate into policy. The last couple of polls we've had have either been ignored or closed without explanation.Maybe our sudden transition to democracy has more to do with how some of "you guys" have been using downvotes inappropriately. imho I think your comment sucks poop.
  19. Can't we just wait and see how only upvotes work in practice? It's a small change that'll be easy to reverse and there's no harm in having a breather from the recent downvote drama.
  20. I voted to keep upvotes. They distinguish interesting posts and keep threads clean of redundant "I agree with x" replies. Downvotes,on the other hand, are no substitute for explaining why you think something is wrong. If you believe a comment is "detrimental" to the server then you report it. If it turns out that you're the only one who finds it that offensive chances are that some frank explanation might improve your position. The biggest issue I have with the forums is the passive aggressive undertone in a lot of posts and it’s fuelled in part by an unproductive cycle of downvoting.
  21. I don't think we've finished talking about whether the admin's reason for closing the thread is a good one. Is a private discussion between Hadmins all that is needed to write off a policy forever? At what points between this discussion and the final decision does community input play a role? Can players discuss alternative systems or just improvements to existing ones? This thread is continuing to raise interesting topics that are directly linked to the OP’s example and to general discussion about the extent of transparency at mcpublic. I’d like to know why it’s too late to unlock the thread. If it was bad idea to lock it in the first place it’s a bad idea to keep it locked now. How can we see who you’re listening to when so much of your “job” is taking place behind closed doors? The implementation of policy is enough of a workload. You can share the workload of deciding which policies to implement with the community at large. A starting point would be to move more of the conversations that are going on in private channels into public irc and mumble. It’d be even better if community polls replaced these entirely. Help us, help you help the community duuuuuude. Also I don’t think the people who disagree with the mod nominations process need it explaining to them. They understand the steps being taken, but think there are better ones we could take. If you engage with these sorts of critics more directly you might convince them that they’re wrong or maybe they’d do the same for you.
  22. Mrloud and Dumbo, if closing the thread was a mistake correct it. Telling people to take the discussion to a thread on a different topic is a cop-out not a compromise. Hadmins shouldn't be dictating the flow of conversion on these forums by shutting down threads, they like every other player should have to argue their points. You might have had the arguments a thousand times in private channels like admin chat. You might have reached a solid final decision. But if you don't check to see how it corresponds to what the community thinks you're missing out on a lot of useful additions and criticisms. Far too often for a public server decisions are made in private and input from players given afterwards. The admin team has gotten better at implementing suggestions which improve on policy presented to the community in this way. However when somebody calls into question the reasoning behind existing policy they're dismissed as being deconstructive. You may have already explained the reasoning behind it to other staff, but it's bloody disrespectful to assume players couldn't add to your understanding or even change your mind on the subject. We're making progress. Before it was just "here's our idea live with it". Now it's "here's our idea, got any tips on improving it?" We need to reach a stage where we can be like "ey yo yo let's come up with policies together then make them better".
  23. What's stopping the meeting from taking place this weekend?
