  1. I see the 24 hour post has gone live. It tells me nothing about the event other than a bunch of hard to read images. If I'm a new player drawn here from advertising or word of mouth I don't have historical knowledge of this event, so tell me what it's all about! On that note, did we decide not to advertise? I would be curious to know why we decided against it. Edit: We should have at least given the server address. Is it nerd.nu? e.nerd.nu? this is somewhat important
  2. After having a discussion with them last night I am confident the revision will be ready for launch the weekend after the event. I would very much enjoy the survival admin posting this publicly, but im quite reassured that work is being made towards a new revision. /me does a backflip
  3. Or use one of the other suggestions that have been made that you guys seemed to approve of at the time I don't really bother logging in anymore, it's normally dead in my timezone, but it's actually dead now the rev is coming to a conclusion
  4. I just ran it on an alt account to test that it still works with all the flags currently set on __global__ in the miniworld. Nice work!
  5. I just set __global__ build = deny on the minigames world. I have created a build=enabled region for the spleef arena floor mrloud made. If you have an area that requires players to build/place blocks then create a subregion with build allow Global build deny blocks pistons, even with the piston allow flag. I can't see a way to protect the piston made doors. PvE experts have any thoughts? __global__ build=deny has been set again, barlimore worked some WG magic to get sub-region pistons to work How are people getting between worlds? is there a warp command? A sign at their base to warp them? This is not an insignificant problem that still needs to be solved. I attempted to create a warp sign to 'MainSpawn' ( which faces you at the ground!? ) and a normal user does not have permissions to use it Are there plans to build something in the leaf sphere? What gamemode are people in for the minigames world? should they be in creative and able to fly? if they are in survival we need to give them a way not to starve to death. Being in creative will require changes to a lot of the events. Do we have server messages set up explaining what we are doing with the donation link given a bunch? Can we negate the permission for staff (in modmode) to be able to join teams? What is the plan if teams become unbalanced early on in the event? Do we have a marketing strategy? This is the perfect time to spend a little money to have advertisements on various subreddits and make posts around the place. Have we actually confirmed we have techs available during the course of the event? Do we have sufficient staff with the 'cutepvp.admin' permission and basic knowledge of how things run in the event something is required during the event? It's great to see all the building progress of late, and I'm sure people will love the world that we have built for them. There is however a lot of questions that we haven't answered or apparently considered and time is short.
  6. Thanks for the update from the survival admins. Please could you ask them to tell us the updates directly - on their schedule or on requests like this
  7. I'm going to get on in 9 odd hours with an alt and grief. Hopefully everything is protected and I will be unable to ^_^ In the event I find unprotected things I'll be placing build protections on them and posting the region ids here
  8. This could probably be moved out of MCP. Information is relevant to everyone, not just staff.
  9. Sounds like a novel idea, couldn't hurt I guess.
  10. Looks like base and flag regions are set up and complete. Fishing village and mushroom buff is protected from what I can see in /region list Just need to do random buffs and whatnot around the map and the minigames world.
  11. So uh, whats left to do? I've removed most of the things from barlimores last update that I believe are done. Can we get a bit of direction here. Seems to still be a lot of fairly major things left and no status update for a while. [WIP]Minigames Spawn - SwitchViewz [WIP]Event Lobby - zburdsal [WIP]Custom Spawners - SwitchViewz [NOT BEGUN]Prizes - SwitchViewz [ON HOLD]Protections - SwitchViewz So um...SwitchViewz...how are you going? Haven't seen you achieve anything in a little while and it seems a lot is waiting on you to achieve things ( Not a dig, just an observation )

    Funding Concerns

Guys focus on the issue and keep the thread on track. It has been productive, don't undermine that by arguing over detail
  13. We're constantly catering to two different groups of people, I want 3-4 month revisions with no beds but otherwise minimal change from generic minecraft. I completely understand that is not what a lot of other people want. We either need to give PvE more pvp, where it is simply a toggle between allowed or disallowed per person, or we need to find something to define S and build upon it. As it stands nearly everything S once had is now found on PvE with the exception of globally enabled PvP. If we were to give all the "PvE with PvP enabled" people a new home on P it could free up S to become whatever it is everyone else is asking for? As for the duration, I don't quite recall where it came from either, simply that it was mentioned and shot down as far as I recall. Bias memory probably.

    Funding Concerns

I wish I had the irc logs of an earlier conversation, but I'll summarize below what I said then: As I said, our current box is good for the price we pay ( $238 ). Alternatives would be SingleHop and FutureHosting however for the amount of ram we currently have neither host can beat SecuredServers on price. We could look at moving to OVH if we wanted to change the landscape of our server a bit but there is little incentive at the moment. We could look at moving back to Incero where we originally were hosted some 3-4 years ago, but we were unhappy enough with them to move, moving back wouldn't be a decision made lightly. Another option to lower cost would be to split our game servers across multiple smaller hosts, the added cost of extra ram however is far less than an entirely new server with lower specs is. There are a lot of 'minecraft hosts' out there, who will happily charge us $50 a month to give us shared bandwidth on an oversubscribed host with a slow CPU and minimal technical support. Thankfully there are still some sysadmins on the nerd tech team who understand servers, not just minecraft. Having read over the price breakdown for what we're actually getting we're not doing so bad, we should be looking at other areas to increase revenue rather than reducing cost ( except for that random $70 ). If we planned to remove a game server then we should consider moving hardware as well. EDIT: I'm inclined to ask the same question, is there some previous experience you have that you are drawing on to make these conclusions? If you have experience hosting servers or using these solutions I would be very interested to see how you found them.

    Funding Concerns

There are a lot more...reputable...options available if we wanted to switch our hosting. As it is if you don't count the random $70 server nobody can seem to tell me the purpose of we have a fairly good deal. EDIT to laugh a little: Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2620 (15M Cache, 2.00 GHz, 7.20 GT/s Intel® QPI) We might be able to run a nerd themed toaster on this.
  16. Not just to encourage pvp, but to just centralize everything. We don't have the numbers for a massive map, with everyone so spread out the server just feels empty. A smaller map and removing beds will force people to maintain bases closer to spawn, rather then disappearing to the edge of the map and never being seen again I'm a hermit, I don't always want to be found when I'm building, but I think the move is for the best.
  17. They may not miss you, but they will sure miss a lot of other people who feel the same, myself included. I'm not sure where toby pulled the 6 week figure from but I doubt anyone here thinks that is actually realistic.
  18. If we were going to do t-shirts I would like to see something more subtle. I would probably (maybe?) wear this around campus, I wouldn't wear anything directly minecraft related.
  19. PVP has been tested out, respawns, flag drops and all that good stuff is working as expected NE and SW buffs have been set, however if more buffs are needed a tech will need to stop the server and manually edit the config.yml Edit: worth noting that a score/member/buff reset will need to be done to the config to remove the kills generated from testing
  20. I came across some pictures from the first CTF event if you want any of them http://imgur.com/a/tJTO0
  21. We are just over a week out, this needs to happen now. If nothing is done in 14 odd hours when I wake up I will be leaking the 2nd image in some creative way I'm yet to figure out. Edit: Excellent, thanks mrloud
  22. Flags for both red and blue are now set, tested capturing for red team works as intended, plugin appears stable. Standing on own teams wool gives "Resistance" potion effect. Standing on enemy teams wool gives "Wither" portion effect. Some images we could use in the 'leaks' http://imgur.com/a/OWWVx
