What do you want to see happen with the E server?
XkinOEC replied to SwitchViewz's topic in Minecraft General
Chaos. I'd like to see it hosting Chaos at all times when no other things are occurring on it. -
Other maps: -Citybuild(not prelaid out, but managed to avoid massive scale issues/quality issues/etc) -PVE/S PLANNING MAP. We've spoken about this a million times since long before we even had multiverse "PVE needs a dedicated area on C so we don't have ridiculous half-builds everywhere" "When will the Cadmins and Padmins deal with this issue that is plaguing C?" "look, now because the staff couldn't get their acts together, there are a million pve planning servers and almost no one on nerd... we've driven them away with our lacking ability to satisfy the needs of our own community" "oh look, still 1 or 2 people planning their pve builds here, why not give them a set area" "we have multiverse now? why not re-invite all these pve people to come back to nerd and use c for their planning in a designated map?" This has been pretty much the majority consensus of the community for so long... Just make it happen. Stop questioning it, stop battling the concepts of trying to make a sub-server on pve with pretty much all of creatives plugins... Just make it happen. On creative. Bring people back to the community. It's Time.

I'm not saying to modpack the servers, we've gone through this conversation multiple times, and it seems staff here are firmly against it. Plugins can achieve the things I suggested though. But I wont say a modded survival server is a bad idea either. Perhaps something that the new leader(s) of it could consider if the whole idea of splitting off comes into fruition.

Precisely why I don't generally give input over gameplay for S. But based on conversations I've had, it seems the issue people find is mostly... People, no one plays, therefore nothing to do. If we're going to focus on fixing S's current issues rather than letting it go away or go it's own route, we need to tackle this issue from a different Angle. Obviously less people means less fun, and less fun means less people playing and sticking around. So an endless downward spiral, which only gets a boost from a new revision... Obviously we cannot just keep releasing new revisions each week until we maintain a 20 player minimum during non-peak hours. So, what are some sort of boosts that people would suggest? This may be a good time to bring up something I know I've suggested in the past, but probably not gotten a word of it to Sadmins... It is in some aspects similar to what Difficult1 said here, NPCs role playing as players... Essentially, the server will have a few bot players, that will walk around, find materials to make weapons and food, and attack players who are in their line of sight, we could give it a kill cooldown too so the bots don't get too smart and start spawn camping people. Although building on Difficult1's idea, there are mods like MineColony that can probably be accomplished with plugin forms, if people truly want to go the route of responsive NPC villages.

I understand what you're saying as well, but While nerd.nu does have rules preventing power abuse, staff cheating, and of course getting OP by asking, so do many other servers. It's what keeps us running tightly, but it's hardly what keeps the players returning, and new players joining... And no one will ever be able to convince me that anyone has visited this page and said "MY GOODNESS, this server has totally won me over with this rules page that is longer than most EULAs" non-sarcastically. Although, I will say the rules have grown significantly since you first joined, which at the time, when Minecraft was young, these rules were a revolutionary thing. These were the first public servers after all.

I never said the solution is 'MERICA, I simply am stating that it can bring a nice vigor to what was the survival community. Having things like elections, that frequently occur will bring excitement and anticipation. As well as drive people to be better and more creative when thinking of improvements to the server... to answer your questions: 1) You wouldn't, survival players would however. Loose affiliation will help start a small sub-community. I honestly find it hard to believe anyone would stay on nerd.nu for it's rules, maybe the community, but people come to nerd.nu to play with blocks with people, rather than alone in single player. To some extent, I feel that "the rules" and methods of nerd.nu may have been just what brought survival down to this point, but that's a concern for another day. What's junction? 2.1) nerd would have to be involved because it would be formed from it's current survival community, as well as an obligation to getting everything done appropriately. Yes, initial money, Tech staff who would help build the initial plugins, websites, and setup of the server, as well as temporary staff until all positions needed are filled. 2.2) It depends on what you're talking about with the $10 a month, if you're insisting that's all it takes for running this community for a year is $120 then I might as well take ownership now and with a proposed $6,000 buyout or something. But assuming you mean just survival, loose affiliation would mean that people from nerd.nu would be able to find out about it easily. I can't start a server right now and then tell anyone over the forums or server about it without getting banned for advertisement. We still have a community, and people who join nerd.nu simply for survival... The lobby could still maintain the portal, or at least a sign with the new join IP for this new server, which would help it to start off. I couldn't do that even if I begged. However while still loosely tied together, it would not receive criticism from players of Creative and Pve who simply did not care for the gameplay or server and have felt it's shutdown ideal for years. In the end we would not be starting a new server, we're allowing survival to continue where it left off while slowly separating from nerd.nu and being run by only it's own active players decisions. I suppose it would also hopefully maintain a place in the Lobby, but can otherwise be disconnected from nerd.nu to avoid safety issues at the box, and ending its use of nerd.nu's budget(once stable).

I actually kinda like that idea BarneyGale had, put it on a cheap machine, separate bans, websites, and such, make it run on a bit of a different governing system, but still partially overseen by the nerd.nu head administration(similar to how china does with Hong Kong), at least until it takes off and gets on its feet, could eventually allow it full separation, or even full return and adaption for our current community if it somehow works out well. Honestly, it could be really cool, imagine it in a democratic voting system similar to the United States, having primary elections, campaigns for office, debates, and all sorts of fun things that could even bring some hype to the community. Then the new governing body will make decisions on how to change and upgrade the servers. Ultimate rule would be that the new leader(s) cannot change the system of election, Voting will be held on a set date 1-2 times a year, and appointing positions is entirely in the active and registered-to-vote community decisions. We will obviously need to come up with a way to determine active and real community members... as we can see by the current nerd.nu system of voting moderators, if the staff list isn't purged for active votes, we will still see completely inactive staff give their two cents on the people in line to become moderators. Again, since it would be a small box, and it will lightly be monitored by nerd.nu to start, it will be able to take off a bit, but should become self reliant on its own soon enough. If it fails/money runs out, then the hosting company turns it off and it goes offline, at least that's how every server I've purchased for things has worked. So it's not like a debt collection company will be coming after the server if it does fail. It would just... End. But I still think this could be worth a shot.

We can't avoid what was inevitably going to be decided. But in light of loss, what are you going to present us with instead? You cannot simply say something this bold after a successful donation drive. Not without presenting exactly what is to follow. As we currently know, this community runs on a set budget, with the survival server being shut down, does this mean that creative and pve will be able to run longer? Or does this mean that We will simply be wasting some valuable server space with absolutely nothing? People who have donated will find this very concerning. While I'm 80% sure it is the latter of the two, you absolutely must present to us what is to fill the empty space on the nerd.nu server. Are we going to begin hosting games that survival players enjoy such as Counter Strike? They do deserve something in return for your failure to meet their ever-changing desires. It would certainly anger a lot of vocal survival players to find that you've simply given that extra space over to Creative or PVE. So please, enlighten us on what will follow before the remainder of the survival player base becomes furious.

At no point did I say you did this. I was speaking about my own situation that DID in fact happen well over a year ago at this point. I did not provoke the conversation, by any means either. A player came online asking us "Is anyone here dating someone?" I said "yes" they said "do you love your girlfriend?" I said "I don't have a girlfriend" they said "so you are a girl?" I said "no" they said "so do you have a boyfriend then?" I said "yes, I am gay" about 13 seconds later, I was kicked from c.nerd.nu... no, it was not some sort of error, or time-out, it said I was kicked. So don't act as if I am painting any pictures, this DID in fact happen, so this situation is much more of a photograph then a painting. But i'll let you continue to feel insulted, just as I felt that night when it happened as well as how you made me feel by saying you're insulted that I would bring up such a thing as if it didn't happen or something. Look, I don't want a fight, but by undermining my situation and acting as if it's a grounds for making you look better as you did. It really did offend and hurt me, despite agreeing with most everything else you have said. Now I've re-written this response approximately 15 times feeling several turns of emotions so this is my final statement on the matter.

When the topic of reducing the overly wordy rules was brought up once in private I spoke of making a blanketing rule that also included swearing. and one of our Head Administrators, asked where that even came from as they had no intention of ever restricting the use of swearing on the servers, so I agree with Magnyus here, that for sure cannot be the fight we are having... If we are teaching these "children" words such as "ass, bitch, bastard, cunt, fuck, shit" or other similar words, surely me answering the question "so do you have a boyfriend then?" with my response of "yes, I am gay." should be of far less of a concern to anyone about 'protecting the children' from my inappropriate discussion.
-
Thank you for your concern Roastnewt, and Slide, but when someone else brings up the conversation to me i'm not going to simply lie because someone else's parents don't monitor their computer use and are homophobic... And at this time, other than the moderator who kicked me, everyone online knew already or was asking towards it already. Also, are you insisting that sexual orientation not something that children should have exposure to? That's a very close minded way of thinking... Some children have 2 parents of the same sex, should they not be aware that this is a homosexual relationship? should children be prevented from having such knowledge that there is something other than heterosexual relationships? This is precisely the problem with society as a whole rather than our server. Pardon that I am going off-topic here(church discussion is no more on topic though), but you do realize that lacking to acknowledge that there are other sexuality is precisely why "faggot" and "gay" continue to be terms thrown around offensively. When I was playing COD:MW2 several years back, I heard more than a few people attempt to justify their homophobic behavior with reasons of "homos don't exist so no one cares" and "fags don't play video games" these kids were roughly between the age of 6-14. Simply because they seem to be unaware that there are homosexuals at their ages, they think it's alright to be homophobic. Not only that, but looking on the psychological side of someone who may be closeted or yet to know their own sexuality will have this worldly implied idea that being "straight" is the only way to be Boys can only like Girls, and Girls can only like Boys. It's this social construct and negativity towards homosexuals that leads to so many younger homosexuals feeling miserable about themselves and potentially even committing suicide. Some people aren't strong enough to work past constant teasing, harassment, and physical abuse. For some it is too late, but the next generation could be different, we are entirely capable of ending homophobia online and make the homosexual children of the next generation equally as comfortable with living their lives as any straight male or female but not with ideals like: I would appreciate if you remember that. Again my apologies for going off topic.

"thats gay" = bad "he's gay" = also bad "he's gay?" = not bad, but it should be up to the moderator or staff member to have some common sense to observe what is being said, rather than simply tell you "don't speak like that here" Believe me, I know your trouble considering I've been kicked simply for stating "I am gay" before on the servers. I've also seen one of our Cadmins kick someone the moment the word was said without even reviewing that their previous message was talking about when they came out of the closet. I'd have to say its simply a banned word because some staff here refuse to acknowledge the true subject of conversation. I mean, considering my situation, I was kicked for being a homosexual. Which then means the server is homophobic... Which, it isn't, but I'm seeing it more as the higher up staff do not want to deal with the situation either positive or negative. Which is for the best honestly because a person who simply follows the rules and eventually makes it to staff, could still be a homophobic person, it isn't something that they check profile on, nor should they. Simply making it a banned word will prevent any negative situations that may occur. However that doesn't cover everything.... what about "Lesbian" or "homosexual" people love to be twisty and make use of loopholes in this community while I feel homosexual should not be a banned word, I can completely see someone saying "you're a homosexual" with homophobic intentions. So it is a sticky situation regardless. While I completely would be in support of staff having a more watchful eye before turning directly to "/kick homophobia is not allowed here" when I am speaking of my own sexuality. And I know it is possible too considering the staff policy on how they must agree and back each other up regardless their own opinions. But it's too much to ask and will lead to more trouble than it is worth internally higher up... Best to just not say it or use it on the servers to avoid it, be more non-descriptive and use homosexual as it is a broad term that tends to have less of a negative connotation associated with it, you will likely get into less arguments with it.

Pyr0, as taco said, drops are possible, you can use your "pet" mobs, or ask for them to be spawned as taco also said. I never said anything about treating P players badly, but it is a common thing that C players tend to get annoyed when these giant areas with corners of buildings are made in ways to make it obvious that they will not be finished. However the distaste really goes towards P in general as players cannot see who built things unless a name was left. Players would then complain to the C staff who would then do nothing because no rules were broken. Several P players did get the complaints though when we held a few meetings for C and P players were present. It resulted in many P planning servers going up. This is why I suggested this world.

Multiverse.... I could have sworn I posted this before... Worlds: Freebuild(main): anything can be built here Citybuild: not necessarily just city, but Real-Life things, such as forests, railroads, subways, suburbs, cities, farmland, highways, amusement parks; generally all modern era, however different areas can be made and inter-connected by roads/trains PVE-planning: true, it's not what the C players would like C to be filled up with, but this is the perfect way for us to become a bit more mingled with the people on PVE, as well as stopping the wide array of people who play PVE from hosting their own servers that generally have more players than C simply because we've complained about their half-built projects so many times that it's scared them away... Inviting them back with their own planning world will strengthen our servers. adventure map open slot: some people would love to create an awesome adventure map or minigame map, this map can have many more world edit features open to the whole map and can be reserved by players for 1 week at a time(can be extended if progress is shown) Contest Map: It seems we constantly have to expand or change the contest arena for different tasks, why not make a contest map that is easily expanded?

Hello AidenMoMo, Ban Information: You were banned on s.nerd.nu With the reason: Grief on Survival You were banned by: Mrloud15 You were banned on: May 15, 2014 Please be patient, the banning staff member will tend to your appeal shortly. While you wait, I advise you to read our rules as you will be expected to follow them if your appeal is accepted. In the event that the banning staff member does not respond to this appeal within 48 hours, feel free to B.U.M.P (bring up my post) your post here on the forums. Again, please be patient as it does take a lot more than just a single minute for staff members to handle your ban and posting "REPLY" will not decrease that time.

Nope, I have an account, I can't edit the main rules page. I can however edit the pages relating to it such as the Survival approved client list... Which again was subjected to abuse. So contrary to what Avada asked, I still believe it should be re-written. But return to a locked state.
-
The entire section under Mobs within the PVE Title contains absolutely no rules, just statements. Much of the C banned block list is outdated. This and other linked rule pages should be locked as they have been subject to abuse in the past. http://www.redditpublic.com/index.php?title=List_of_approved_client_mods&oldid=22720 This edit right here was created by Trevorman simply so he could justify kicking me multiple times from c.nerd.nu when I joined with a chat app(despite it clearly being a list for survival, and my chat app client threw no NCP warnings) He only knew because the client announced that "username joined using appname for devicename" as the first message... Perhaps it does detail rules, but it still needs cleaning up and refreshing as I've stated several times now with little to no support.

So Scher, what your saying is that if Dumbo46(an actual minecraft account) joined our server, you would ask him to change his name despite him holding an account in minecraft longer than our very own Dumbo52, simply because we already have a Dumbo52 AND they are a member of staff? What if they refused to comply? They would have every right to do so. Are we going to take action on them despite him wanting nothing more than to build with some fresh faces on a minecraft server he found from an ad we put out? mrloudlyspell mrloud jchan kjchance schererpups SmilerAi Smiler22 SmilerRyan Smiler __Slide__ Slide11 redwall redwall20 That's just a few, of the many similar names of premium paid minecraft accounts.

I think it may be a bit unfair for LRO to have a 4th option like that. Even if she already holds a position that is above moderator, it's not really fair to have all those potential yes and no votes go to "shes already an event admin". being decisive is being decisive, but that is simply a statement.

Sorry for not posting a rap song, but what is with PBS show theme songs and being so good to play over rap, and techno songs?!

TIL If I start my own company, go to Jchance for logo and promotional material creation.

Personally I question why we have upvotes anyways. I was told that we need to explain why we disagree rather than just downvoting people. which is why we are all now expressing massive levels of rage in the forums. meanwhile Upvotes remained because they absolutely don't care if we agree and have something to say. but honestly... If I'm only allowed to agree on 10 things per day, then it seems utterly pointless. just cut the system all together. it's pointless, it's broken, it's unnecessary, it detracts from potentially good conversation, it really only creates drama just as downvotes did.
