Creative Creative Feedback Thread: What do you want to see in Rev 28?
XkinOEC replied to LetsBFehr's topic in Minecraft General
Nickeox here, Long time builder and at some point or another leader of the CTA, I'd like to bring to point the general reason I had the CTA under such strict guidelines in the previous revision where I was accused of being such a hold-back on the project. If you recall spawncity was one of the major issues, I couldn't go over it, and I couldn't actually go under it without asking permissions of upwards of 20 users for a single line. However the CTA was strictly underground because despite everyone desire for an above ground CTA to show stuff off, I was here for the wide variety of CTA's that have existed in the past, and I was well aware of how people massively disliked CTA's that were above ground. If the complaints weren't "its too dark below the tracks" then they were, "it takes up too much space, and is quite an eye-sore" I myself can attest to disliking many of the past revisions with above ground or at-ground-level CTA's. This is why I always aimed to create a mostly underground experience. Further applying to the fact that we simply don't use minecart tracks the same as we did in the early days of nerd.nu. The CTA isn't used for its function anymore. Underground gives us the ability to make a very unified tunnel design, and create very intricate stations everywhere. Keeping up with the creative and appealing looking methods of building on c.nerd.nu. Perhaps whoever is leading it in the 28th revision of creative will take into consideration what I have said. -

There are two ways to make something transparent

You say this Cyotie, yet then we make one of the biggest grudge-holding features public, the modvotes. Anyone can see what votes I or other staff members made. While it doesn't concern me personally as I no longer care what people think of my opinion, it has been made apparent before that staff members feel uncomfortable expressing their true opinion on people simply because it will cause people to hold a grudge towards them, and rightfully so, as I know a significant number of people who are currently on staff that feel a bit of a negative vibe with those who voted no for them. So really what more are we protecting if it's a staff members job to give accurate input on those? As far as I can tell, many of the things we currently talk about in the main section of that forum are things that have no reason to be hidden... Many of them require community input more than our own, yet we're restricting them to moderator + status for some reason. -
It was all just a bad dream.

I believe Crockoduck is asking is for a sign of their presence... Thrawn hasn't been on any of the servers in well over a month, and cyotie keeps his presence simply by making a visit to all 3 at least once a week... As far as players and even moderators can see, they don't have a presence. so to nudge this in the right direction.... Either; show the community what they are doing have them start playing blocks... or have them hit the happy trail. Sorry if it comes off as rude, but I've brought up this point before, and rather than a majority of the placeholders, we got rid of our most active head admin, and our least active head admin. I hate to drive the upper-level management away. But it's not like the moderator position, we don't simply get a large disposable amount of them. It's a position that requires activity and in all honesty, community interaction. Simply posting on the forums a bit, or being on mumble would help drastically in achieving that.

I posted practically 25 serious questions almost an hour after this thread was made... I guess they were lost in cyber space... What color is your underwear?

Ban information: Ban: c.nerd.nu (marting11) [chat spam, homophobic language. nerd.nu/appeal] 2012-09-06 09:30:48 You do have an earlier ban appeal which was handled not by the banning moderator, but rather by another staff member. As you have made it clear that you took the appropriate steps towards protecting your account, I will proceed with unbanning you. I do ask however that you give our servers a try, rather than just get a ban removed.

It's been brought up before, and as I have noticed, that is what many minecraft communities are doing now-a-days. I'm all for other games, but there aren't many games that just meet the needs of our OCD like minecraft. I'd say Gmod, but that game also kinda finished its run as a really popular multiplayer game. We'd need to find some games that suit the players of all 3 servers.

Region Size While there may be room for abuse, I don't think we should be this strict on it, Moderators and admin are already staff we have entrusted permissions on the server with, I believe staff should be entitled to exceed this if they choose since they are likely to stick around and use the space wisely. Again I bring NEVAstop's spleef for example. Old rules do dictate he should have not been given the space for spleef... but had he not protected it then and there, someone would have built a derptown in the middle of the playing field area before he could build it. The old outline method that we gave players was a complete train-wreck... Ironically enough mostly used by the same player with the large portion of land. But suddenly a player would build on the other size of a claimed hill, regardless how nice or fit to the area their build is, we would remove it because the claiming player marked it but we didn't protect it. But once again I got off topic... If we trust them to be a moderator, we should trust them to manage their space on C properly, even if it is beyond the region size. While I am aware it creates a separation between player and staff rank, it's really just cutting out the middleman of contacting a cadmin. I feel if it becomes abusive, we can tend to it when it does, since we will likely all be on the same level about this problem. But in a nutshell, regardless, this policy change should not be effecting anything in the configuration of the server, only how staff handle it. Too up for interpretation, I recall Marting11 saying he uses a toaster for a computer at some point, render distance for him may be quite different than Jchance on his State-of-the-art Microwave Oven with convection fan and popcorn button. Suddenly Marting11 is giving players 50x50 plots, while jchance is giving out 150x150 plots.

Region SizeI like that Idea, but perhaps we should dilly dally with sizes a bit first. People like to ask for a large plot to begin with and only build in a corner of it. giving x+y = 300 may be very... large, used trollishly almost.

Region SizeMy suggestion towards this would be: a set maximum region start size. If a player wants more, they may request more pending staff discretion. If a player anticipates that they will need land larger than our initial max size, they must submit a short report/discussion with a staff member as to what they plan to do and why they need this to be protected immediately. For clause 3, I will use NEVAstop's spleef for example. It is quite a large build, and would use more room than we would ever initially hand to a player in the past, and possibly into the future as well. However it would be tragic if we made him work on it in a tiny 50x50 block area to start meanwhile another user comes up right besides it and builds a city of sorts right in the middle of the planned playing floor area. If he weren't already a moderator, he would have to submit a report to have a region created to this size. Also on clause 3 but also clause 2, we may want to consider just cadmin+ being allowed to make these decisions, this will provide consistency of allowance. This way moderators who have difference senses of "big" or are from P or S generally and feel big is a completely different size than the general C moderator can all deal with the problem in the same way. Another clause would be how strictly we would follow my previous clause. We will not limit moderators ability to expand the regions beyond that simply due to the stupid logic of tiny expansion, and admin workload. Obviously a moderator should be able to expand a max sized region by 5 blocks if the player requests. There are times where it would seem absolutely absurd to wait on an admin for a job that a moderator is capable of doing. not to mention moderators may need to protect builds larger than the max size after they are built regardless.

Policy for discussion: Region SizeCurrently a player claims a 700 x 475 region. This region is quite large and has a large number of repeated buildings inside of it. Our current policy doesn't quite dictate what to do about this. It is not yet a problem, but may soon become one if the player asks for more space, here we will discuss our ideas and suggestions about the topic.

Obviously with change comes unforeseen consequences even after the most thorough of testing. This thread will be dedicated to any and all suggested policy changes that staff notice relating to World Edit on creative. This will be for ALL discussions, so for sake of organization, please respond with " name of topic at hand" at the top of your post to keep this thread organized.

My point was more so that they wouldn't be aware that she is a head admin or even staff, players on C tend to be of a lesser maturity level, and do not know of the tab list, or /list, usually they ask who the admins are when they join or just ignore people they don't care to talk to. Frequenting moderators get far less of this backlash.
-
As I said in my post relating to the inactive head admins several months ago, which got a lot of backlash about tech admins doing back end stuff and head admins dealing with community relations... I think simply having a bit of a presence on the Minecraft servers is quite vital. There is a visual level of interest that is represented by at least being on the servers once in a while. Players would like to know that the people in charge of their game are actually interested in said game. I hate to speak by example, but when my original post was written, neither wickedcoolsteve nor draykhar were online on either of the 3 servers for at least 3 months. To a player, and even to us moderators, that would show a lack of interest or concern for the game which they lead. (used as example, I am aware of circumstances) I personally would hate to say there should be a set limit... But unless you all will stop being over concerned with things players don't much notice any changes for, and start playing blocks again like the rest of us... there may very well have to be a minimum visit/visit time limit. And no, this cannot be solved by required group presence, or going afk on the server. This brings to light problems with the mod nomination techniques as well. if you're not present, you shouldn't be allowed to have an opinion on someone. "does not know well enough" should be used if a staff member hasn't encountered this user in over a month simply because things change, and we once again get into an endless cycle of one persons opinion changing the whole crowds, and YES an inactive (currently and at the time) staff member is guilty of this. Anyways, back on track... To the players it is quite important that those high up names on the staff page actually pay a visit. I've been asked several times if AlLnAtuRalX, LadyCailin, or Daeygo will be on any time soon. They have never seen them, therefore they find them to be clogging up positions, regardless if they are constantly programming and such for the servers. It doesn't show the players that you have interest. It's a game about blocks, not about programming or community relations. Take a break, and get to know the people you're leading. I don't want to come off as harsh, but the reason many players express hatred towards the staff as of recent relates to the fact that you're making decisions based on people you don't get to know in any normal way. New people to Pve hated Tompreuss because he was stern and strict to the rules, while long time players tended to enjoy his presence. After spending a bit more time on P, and communicating with him more in the environment that we play/coexist in (Minecraft) I didn't seem to mind him either way. I feel this could turn out the same for our staff (specifically admins) as well... Because as it stands right now Mrloud15; I've had players tell me they no longer feel comfortable in the community because of how you took to your position immediately by moderating the forums. Following that up, I and other moderators on C felt quite discomforted when you demanded that we not be in modmode when not doing moderator things. But I feel that perhaps had it not been the first interactions you've had with these people, you may not have gotten so much backlash. The same can be said similarly with other staff/admins who are more impartial towards a single server or are inactive as well (so don't think I am bashing just you, I've gotten plenty of other complaints as well). Do you think if Thrawn21 came on C right now while 4 common people are role-playing something inappropriate in chat, and one is creating half swastikas, that any of them would listen if she told them to stop? Without banning them, I doubt she would even invoke any intimidation. However she WOULD then take it back to the mod nominations that suchandsuchuserwhohadatonofsupport who is a common player who played along in the inappropriate role play for 1 message and once again a user is tarnished from the list. Even if you are watching from chatlogs... You don't know the person well enough to know that they were absolutely not intending harm when they said "oh baby" in response to the other roleplayer speaking in depth about the shape of a vagina or something stupid like that. But I suppose I am once again off track, my point is, a presence on the server is important for more than just interest in the game. It's important for leading the community and letting the community know you are actually there and actually still caring for the game they so happily bring their friends to nerd.nu to play together. While I am aware there are flaws with any type of requirement/rules that we would implement... Something should be done at least for player contentment. PLAY BLOCKS.

I'll see what I can do, i'm not sure if any of the revisions that need a new cartograph will be effected, but there may be a revision in which using the current version of minecraft as a direct map updater version will change a few block IDs... It would be miserable to see all of the wood change to netherbricks again. :P
