I think if you change any statement where I said "we" to "I" your issues will be resolved, I do not speak for everyone. As I said before, I was trying to explain staff's response, not just my own. My statement was too authoritative and that caused confusion. Sorry. Focusing on the issues Tharine brought up and whether I feel they need to be addressed. I do not think there is a strong problem of "players vs. staff" from my own observations of Mod Chat. I think there is a strong need for a private place to discuss server issues, and that the subcommunity that has formed around moderating the servers generally carries healthy (non-toxic) discussion. I think Tharine's chat logs show good examples of where that is not true, and where we can do better, but are not a reason to overall change our policy, which should be formalized. -

Cool, works for me. -
In our current (25th) Revision of Creative, I have been tasked with moderating, curating, and cultivating an area for players to create examples of the best Redstone has to offer. I wanted to open this forum up for players to ask any questions about what, how, and where to build their creations. I only had limited space to put rules on the signs in the towers, so I know there is more than can be explained. Our intent is to make a collection of Redstone devices that explain the nuances of how to make some of Minecraft's most complicated and capable creations. To start with, you can build anywhere in the towers that permissions let you (place a block to test if you can build, since all areas are under a parent protection anyone can build in). Once you've build something, make a /modreq as usual to get it protected. Each segment of each tower is organized by the type of creation. If you can't find the category that fits your device, please ask, or build it on the lowest floor (labled Misc.). If it truly doesn't fit in any category it may inspire us to make a category for it! When looking for your category, consider that the simplest devices are at the top, and the most complex are at the bottom. The Towers each represent a principle, Thought and Action respectively. Thought is where various logic type devices are located. Action is where those devices are implemented to perform a real function (most often, a door). Our goal is to make designs that fit into all sorts of configurations and orientations. Generally we want to see examples of the smallest, most efficient devices possible (Rube Goldberg on your own property!). If you run out of room in a category, send a mail to me and I'll do something (I don't know exactly what yet.) about it. To help other players understand your creations please place at least one sign explaining what it is and who created it. Other signs to explain nuances are always appreciated. So give me your questions, statements, and propositions below and I look forward to all of your creations!

I agree, any cPVP will have to be with honorable players. I still don't see the need to take the function away.

gsand, you're correct that I have said this before in IRC, and I found myself incapable of responding to questions there in a timely manner that that medium usually follows. I posted these comments here to put my observations and opinions on record as a better way to responsibly discuss them. In response to your request for further explanaiton of harm, Tharine's unilateral choice to post private chat logs has taken away a secure and private location for staff to have discussions. We served you better because we had a private place where we could develop ideas together, which we could not on our own. It helped us form a strong sub-community within nerd.nu's staff. We also (and primarily) served you better by having a secure place to discuss server security preventing threats from damaging the community. Without these being assured I do not feel we serve you as well as we once did. I call taking that away "harming the community". Unless I missed something I didn't dictate any player's opinion, in fact I stressed how your opinion matters to me in the post you responded to. Though you might believe my opinion is "trash", I am open to having my opinion changed, and the only way to do that is by discussing it. I take your, and other members opinions that Tharine has long been one of our most upstanding, and hard working admins very seriously. I don't believe that history has a direct bearing on how she is likely to act towards the community at the moment, her character, given her action which started this discussion. Her noted history will affect how I value any future communications and actions she has with the server and myself and is not to be disregarded. Her actions are far more harmful in my opinion than any of the issues she brought up and validated by that action. I think we simply disagree on that point and perhaps my above explanation of "harm" has changed your opinion. I do think her issues should be addressed and discussed, but preventing the associated actions holds priority for me in the immediate future. I am not seeking to assassinate anyone's character. As bad as Tharine's actions were in my opinion, I still think there are ways I could welcome her back to the community eventually. I'm definitely not seeking to insult you, Tharine, or anyone, and so I hope I have been direct in responding to your issues. -

Just to add a minor thing to your list, since I dont' think it was intentional: While I couldn't take my an opposing team's flag into my own base, I could take it into theirs. -
I think the key to my above reply is a question of: "What is the cost of enabling PVP on C? I don't see one, only a potential benefit."
-
Just weighing in an opinion. I enjoyed having PVP'ers on C the last few days. I don't see the purpose of denying someone the ability to quickly construct a PVP arena in Creative, and then use it. Least of all, I don't think I've seen how PVP on C disturbs any of the creative process, especially since the advent of clanchat. I'm all for intentionally enabling this for players to give them more options, even if they are limited in some ways.

I really enjoyed making the maze under the lake of lava...but I enjoyed the screams of the damned who found themselves trapped inside even more!

Sorry to see you go, please take care in whatever the future holds for you. Hope to see you around! :)

To clarify my perspective, her opinion no longer represents that of an admin, even a member of the servers, or even just some random person passing through, but rather someone who actively has sought to harm our community with every power we trusted her with. I consider your, our members, opinions to carry significantly much more weight in my decisions than Tharines at this point. -

I do not know Tharine well myself, community consensus is that historically she has been anything but the qualities ROCKONN described. I believe her prior actions support that statement. Regardless of that, her final actions do fit perfectly within ROCKONN's description, and with nothing more to go on will be what we have to assume Tharine has become. This person does not have nerd.nu's best interests at heart, and has violated our trust deeply in her most recent actions. Hopefully, you will then understand if we consider any points made as part of this final derogatory action to be anathema. -

Zuziza, I affirm to you that your admins and mods do our best to act civil both privately and publicly. We don't always succeed, and there are almost always consequences for public incidents. Tharines exposure of private chat logs is an example of a public incident, and the above comments stress the staffs' concern and determination to prevent it in the future. We believe that is far greater of an issue than any concern Tharine brought up as it does give our ability to actually serve the community. Thank you for requesting a discussion on this topic that is your concern. I think being open to these questions is one of our best steps to transparency. :-) -

We had another great CTF. I'd like to invite anyone who captured a memorable moment to post their pics here! Here I am with Red's flag...on their spawn. Here I am again near the top of Verros's impressive sky scraper!

^ The first response that popped into my head as a C mod. Sounds great, can't wait to play! I've been discussing the event in game to make sure players (who don't frequent the forums) know what's happening Friday and ran across more than a few. Can we have the normal server addresses redirect to event.nerd.nu during the event so players don't have to set anything up to get connected? -

So no antechamber with an EnderDragon statue with Diamond block eyes over a pit of lava? -
Ah, I see now that you didn't want a third category, please take that as my own idea then. I think a person not being known holds probably a fourth of the weight of any actual concern (a true "no" vote). Furthermore I wouldn't be terribly concerned with any abstain votes from staff on servers the player never plays on as they will not be likely to moderate there either. I'm a solid example of that as almost all of my time is spent on Creative or the planning servers. We have server specific admins, so it surprises me that we don't have server specific moderator positions. Just another thought.

Sounds good totemo, thanks for all your work. Can we help in any way? (I would enjoy making statues in the dungeons for added atmosphere.) -
I think there may be some confusion on whether we should vote "No" or simply abstain from commenting on a person if we don't know them well enough. I thought our policy was to say "No" and that abstaining wasn't part of the process. I personally would prefer if we have a 3 category system ("Yes", "No", "Abstain"). I would like for us to have our process written (pinned in the forums/website/wiki) for what consensus constitutes a successful election (barring veto from Admins). Explicit discussion of a candidate's reliability should be kept in mod chat private, but need not be deleted/censored. This should not be a problem assuming we've elected someone with a level head able to accept appropriate criticism. and that criticism is made by staff who also have shown they have a level head and present facts and observations.

I recommend that at least a 3x3 region around the spawners be protected to prevent piston grief (using pistons to move the spawners out of the protected area).
