  1. Hey there everyone, for those of you that gave feedback in my feedback thread, thanks a bunch! I am looking for some ideas and suggestions for Friday Night Gaming and Special Events. I'd love to hear game suggestions and ideas that you guys have to help make these even better. Below I listed some of the upcoming games and events that are currently in the works. I have also listed some of the changes I will be making. Changes I'm making: We will always be playing on both Friday and Saturday assuming I am available. On Fridays we will start later to accommodate people working. On Saturdays we will be starting earlier to accommodate those early people. Special events will be held on Saturdays to allow for more people to participate as well as start earlier to give us more time. I am currently investigating the possibility of handing out some sort of award for special events, such as subreddit or forum flair. No promises yet but I am looking into it. I am also looking into possibly awarding bigger special events with some sort of game prize. Assuming we are not playing a very resource intensive game I will be starting to record all of our game nights. I then plan to upload them however I am not yet sure if I will upload to the official Nerd YouTube or my own YouTube account. I am going to start announcing FNG/SNG on the subreddit in hope of gaining more people and more of the community joining as not everyone checks the forums. I am also going to try and utilize the Steam group a lot more. I plan to start hosting Minecraft related events to involve more of the community. Details on these are TBA. Upcoming games for FNG/SNG: Planetary Annihilation Battlefield 3 Terraria Upcoming special events: TF2 Shenanigan Night CS:GO Tournament
  2. Bumping for some ideas. With my current FNG/SNG Games I was thinking of some awards/flair I could give out as well as some for some Minecraft awards. I don't have time to compile images for them at the moment but here are some titles I thought of: Minecraft: (Month/Year Here) C Speed Build Champion (Name Here) Event Maze Winner CTF Most Kills (Year Here) Other Games: Civ 5 Brawl 1 Winner TF2 MvM Participant CS:GO Tournament 1 Winner TF2 Staff VS. Players Participant Planetary Annihilation Brawl 1 Winner Jailbreak Most Escapes Tournament Any thoughts/feedback are welcome! Note: Some of the listed awards are things that I haven't done yet but plan on doing in the near future.
  3. This issue was known about a week or so ago and we were talking about it in IRC. According to Dumbo52 the command was disabled for some reason but he said he reenabled it. Is it still broken?
  4. I'm starting to get really sick of you making accusations like this and then providing absolutely no evidence to back it up. Either start bringing some evidence or support with you, or stop making such incorrect statements. I have tried to reason and talk with you several times in this thread as well as other staff but we keep getting tossed aside and contradicted with no evidence. Knock it off. If you think I or any other staff member is overstepping there bounds then please feel free to tell me that. If your going to do that I want evidence and facts about what I have overstepped. I try to take a very light approach to moderating as I don't like banning/muting/kicking people if I don't have to. So please, if you have a problem please let me know or if it's another staff member then talk to the Heads about it. I'm not trying to throw you under the bus at all but the mod that made that statement is silly. I am in a moderator position and I do a variety of things to help improve and make an "impact" on the servers. Such as the FNG and helping with our game expansion, running other events and designing new lobbies, as well as other things. You don't have to be in an admin position to make an impact. The fact they state that is silly and frankly not true. cmdrtebok is correct in the fact that they are taking this way to seriously. This isn't a business where in order to do anything you have to be in a higher position. They can do all sorts of things as a Mod or as a Player. When Eehee says the server is "critically wounded" I don't agree with that. I have been around a long time, not as long as some staff members but I've been here a good few years. Over the course of being a player and a moderator I do agree that there are things that need fixing and improving. Some of those things are rather large and need restructuring but we aren't "critically wounded". To use such a term is being frivolous and makes it sound like were on our last breath. Things are not perfect but there is no reason to be so dramatic over it. If you want this "rule overhaul discussion" to go anywhere then step up to the plate and offer what we should do and a plan of action. An example of this is Mumberthrax's poll about the rules. Just because staff doesn't do it right away doesn't mean players can't. Please feel free to help improve and make posts on how you think things should be improved.
  5. 1.) You are correct, we don't have any "real power" over other players but we are here to keep things civil and enjoy the game with you. We are apart of the community just like you are, were not trying to squash what you are saying or keep you hushed. 2.) This is completely false as evident by the "Rule Clarification" thread and Mumberthrax's poll. Please don't make such accusations when they are so blatantly untrue. We are actively listening and trying to improve things but they don't happen instantly. If people want rules adjusted or clarified then going about it in the civil manor in the other threads is how to do it. 3.) Different mods enforce things differently. I know that I tend to keep a slightly tighter grip and attention to chat and enforce the rules a bit more while other mods may let things slip. There also various ways modreqs and ban related things can be interpreted as every mod is different. Denying us that would be telling us to stop talking and do things a certain way regardless if we agree or want to do it that way. We all have different interpretations and because of that different things are enforced differently. 4.) Admins are higher up the food chain then mods and because of this of course they can overrule us on certain things. We don't always know everything that goes on in Admin Chat or conversations between the admins. I don't know how you can say this when your not even on staff to make this accusation. 5.) If someone is scamming or stealing with others then that is a serious issue. You need to bring that to staff, most of us including me will listen to you regardless of who you are.
  6. I have always advocated against rule lawyering and people that push the rules. We are here to play games together and have a good time, not sit here and figure out how far we can push and bend the rules. If someone breaks the rules ban them, if they try to rule lawyer and bend the rules tell them to bad. I do this to people all the time, follow the rules or get out. As harsh as that sounds I am here to play games, not bicker with you on what is what. Now don't get me wrong, I am all for threads like these where we can discuss rules and change them in a good manor, but the obvious trolls that go out of there way to cause trouble just need to be tossed out. So this is a question directed at you Eehee: How comes it takes someone else writing a page long essay for you to change your signature? I told you and many other staff told you that it was offensive and why your not always taken seriously. Nothing ever changed no matter how much we pointed it out, yet when Nullsquare or whoever calls you out you change it? I'm curious on your reasoning for suddenly changing it.
  7. Thanks to everyone that came and played tonight, we had a good time. Many people stayed after the designated time to continue playing. Notice: There will NOT be FNG/SNG for the next 2 weeks as I will be unavailable (March 27/28, and April 3/4). Please feel free to get together on your own though and play! There just won't be an official event.
  8. To add to roastnewt's list: Lapis is also renewable as you can get it from villagers as well as EXP bottles. Source
  9. What do you think we have been trying to do? Nothing? Just because no tech responds to this thread doesn't mean the issue isn't being worked on. Debugging things is difficult and takes time we can't provide instant answers.
  10. Yes but the reason the hardware can't keep up could be a variety of reasons. Such as runaway skeleton grinder with 1000 skeletons, or a plugin has a memory leak and is eating up all the RAM. There is a ton of different things that could be happening that could cause that error.
  11. If your going to make such accusations then you better have evidence to prove it. The fact that this thread is still going and that multiple staff members including head admins have commented on it proves otherwise.

  14. I may of wrote this in a hurry and didn't proof read it... Still no excuse for my mistakes since this is the third time I've done it Fixed!
  15. Hey everyone, sorry for the late post but I wasn't sure of my schedule yet. There will be no FNG this week as I will be busy however we will still be playing on Saturday. We'll also being playing CS:GO again due to only doing it once last week. Saturday Night Gaming When: Saturday March 21st 8PM PST/11PM EST (Time Converter) Game: Counter Strike: Global Offensive Mode: Undecided, will decide when we play Length: 2 Hours Where: Mumble/Steam Recording: No
  16. I have always advocated for simpler and not as complex rules and that is part of why I was not fond of the Community Interaction Policy. This may not be a popular opinion but I vote to abolish the CIP as it doesn't do anything besides add more rules on to our already monstrous pile of rules. The only thing I think we should keep from it is the forum warning system. I agree with both jchance and SirTacoFace, we don't need a massive rule list for the 1% but we also need a page to give examples/define what something is. I propose we split all the rules and community interaction policy into 2 categories. First being the Rules-At-A-Glance where they are short and to the point, and then the Rule-Definitions (or some other name) page where we explain what things are. Such as it gives example of bigotry speech or griefing and lists of banned items, ETC. Going back a bit to the Community Interaction Policy what was the real purpose for implementing it? To explain exactly what doing certain things would result in? If we are going to do a complete rule overhaul then we need to either abolish the CIP or rewrite it as well. I am for abolishing it as it doesn't add anything new besides make the current rules even lengthier and I can definitely say that if I'm just a regular player I don't want to read a entire document on the rules of the community. Most of that stuff should be pretty common knowledge. We have catered long enough to the rule benders and the rule pushers and the rule lawyering. Enough of it. They can either follow the rules or they can not and be banned. The CIP does nothing but cater to the rule lawyering by trying to prevent it. Just follow the rules it isn't that difficult.
  17. In the start of the rev SafeBuckets was causing frequent crashes and that is why we had to stop flowing things for awhile, and after a few days and multiple attempts to fix it it was finally resolved. Last I heard we know about the lag but were unsure what is causing it, this may of chagned though so techs please feel free to weigh in.
  18. Depending what they are arguing about, it usually normal to tell them to knock it off and after a few warnings if they don't stop mute them, or you can ask them to take it to PM or Clanchat.
  19. I like this but think a few things could be simplified down a bit as well as a few minor things added. My thoughts: ALL SERVICES Be respectful and civil toward your fellow players No harassment or excessive trolling No bigotry / hate speech No disruptive arguments/discussions in global chat No public accusations of rule-breaking No xraying/hacking/cheating No griefing or block spamming No inducing excessive lag No spam or advertising No posting personal information (i.e. doxxing) No offensive/inappropriate constructions or skins No impersonating other players, particularly staff If banned, no evading the ban - request unbans at nerd.nu/appeal No public discussion of bans Besides those few minor changes this looks great in my opinion.
  20. Hey there Aypop, I wanted to let you know that this appeal has been passed on to the Head Admins as you are a fellow staff member. They will get back to you soon.
  21. Thanks to everyone that came and played, we had a good turn out and had a lot of fun! I also learned I don't completely suck! Rumor has it that there is another special event in the works... Remember there is no official game being hosted tonight as we are continuing our Civ match from last week, but feel free to play anyway! Next week is currently up in the air as I may be busy. I will post in the near future if there will be one and the details for it.
  22. Hey there whopops, your ban is quite old and we would be happy to unban you! Please read the rules and reply back here stating you have done so. Once you have done that then I or another staff member will unban you. Ban Information: Ban for whopops on c.nerd.nu for griefing nerd.nu/appeal by meno123 on 2011-11-28T17:31:55 (1 more bans, 2 notes)
  23. You have to remember though that this is Minecraft and lots of younger people play it. They often don't know how to mute or even what some of those words mean and wouldn't know what to do when seeing them. Sure, you know how to handle it, but what about everyone else? Were here to play with blocks not have to handle and deal with other players. This is a built in feature of Watson and anyone can go download, install it, and tell it what words to highlight. The main reason we have it highlight those words is because often mods are not paying close attention to chat and are off building. The highlight gets our attention so we know to pay attention to what is going on in chat and decide if we should take action or not.
