  1. Don't want to spend your Friday or valentines day by yourself? No need, come join us for some Friday Night Gaming! We will provide all the love you'll ever need! This week we will be playing TTT and/or Prop Hunt. Instead of one night this week we will be trying 2 to allow for more people to join and meet people's schedule's better. We will also be starting later to accompany those that work later. Notice: There will be no FNG on February 20th/21st or that entire week due to the new PvE Rev launching. When: Friday February 13th and Saturday February 14th at 7PM PST/10PM EST (Time Converter) Game: Garry's Mod Mode: Trouble In Terrorist Town and Prop Hunt Length: 2 Hours Where: Mumble/Steam Recording: Yes
  2. Action Plan How powerful is the second box? Would it be cable of starting up a game or two until we get a official third box specifically for other servers/games? Going off the results of the community poll the most voted on options in descending order are: TF2, Terraria, Garry's Mod (TTT), CS:GO. In my opinion we don't want to rush out the door with a whole bunch of games at once as that may spread things to widely. We should start off with one game to test the waters and then expand from there. We also need to find people to take over and manage those games and there expansion. Such as if we do a TF2 or TTT Server I'd love to take that on, but who would take on a Terraria or CS:GO Server? We would need to find people that are willing to lead those servers as well as people we can trust with admin powers. To make sure my facts are straight, at the current time our biggest problem with expanding to other games is that we do not have the funds to support a box for it? Management/Steam The concern of seeing things in AC is very much legitimate but if we start introducing "Community Mangers" or "TF2 Admins" where would they be placed? Your going to entrust Admin powers on the Steam Group or a TF2 Server and trust that they don't abuse and manage the powers/other staff well, but then not trust them to view Admin Chat? If we are entrusting someone with full server admin powers or steam powers then you should be able to trust them seeing things in Admin Chat. If you don't trust someone seeing Admin Chat why would you trust them with Steam Admin or TF2 Admin powers? (My opinion)
  3. So if I understand correctly, you were pay for a second box but can no longer do so, therefor we don't have a second box? Action Plan Based off of the Head Admin Change log we need 70$ per month to fund another box correct? Would it be possible for the type of specs that we need to be released? I'd be more then happy to to look around for other potentially cheaper options and I'm sure others would to. I also know that (c45y? or cmdrtebok? I think) mentioned something about getting us a box in IRC the other day, we may want to talk to him about that. Managment My opinion on this is that I think it would be good for us to have "Divisions". Such as Minecraft Division, TF2 Division, ETC. That way you could have "TF2 Admin" "TF2 Mod", ETC. The only problem I see is how would perms be handled in this case? Lets say we get a TF2 Box and I become a TF2 Admin, however I still play on our Minecraft servers a great deal. Would I have mod powers both TF2 and MC? Would I be labled as TF2Admin in MC? How would perms be laid out? IRC What would be the reason for moving to a different network? Not against it just curious. STEAM I've been trying to get things on the steam group going though mods are lacking some perms at the moment, I believe Mrloud pinged you about that though. I'd be more then happy to lend a hand here. I think this also ties in a bit with the management section. If we have "steam community managers" would they be just that? Community manager with regular perms? Or would they be a form of admin such as Steam Admin or Community Admin? My opinion is if we make some sort of community manager they should be at the admin level so that they can coordinate with the heads and other admins better (just my opinion though).
  4. Ended a bit early as everyone had to go. We didn't have the biggest turnout unfortunately, though there were a few other events going on. Hopefully we can get a bigger turnout next week! Next week we are looking at TTT, PlanetSide 2, and CS:GO for possible options. We may also host on Saturday instead of Friday, not sure yet. I shall post a topic on Sunday or Monday with the details. Thanks to everyone that came and played!
  5. Hey there everyone, with our recent transition from RedditMC to Nerd.nu Gaming I feel that there are a lot of things that we should discuss and do during our transition. This is going to be a rather lengthy post so I hope you guys stick through it! Please note that this topic is meant for discussion and the final decisions are left to the Head Admins. Our “Official Expansion” Before we changed our name there was, and still is a big push to expand outwards to other games. However I feel like we are lacking any sort of “Action Plan”. We took a survey and took some votes from the Community on what games to expand into but what about after that? Last I had heard Deaygo would be looking into getting a box and picking one or two of the top games. While this is a good start, I think we need more of a actual “Plan”. Such as, once finances are figured out, we will be going into TF2 and hosting a MvM Server or we will be going into a CS:GO TDM Server, etc. Right now it seems like there is a lot of improvisation and figuring it out as we go along. I think if we have a plan and know what we want to do things will go faster and we know what to expect. Thoughts? Staff Changes and Management This is one of the most important points I feel we should discuss and that is how are we going to handle staffing and the running of servers outside of Minecraft. Our current process is we pick members from our minecraft servers to become mod and then possibly admins. However not all our mods/admins are going to be playing every game we expand into. As well as the other way around, someone that joins us for a TF2 Server may not be interested in MC. How are we going to handle the staffing and management of new servers? Techs could be the ones that manage the boxes, but are we going to have say “TF2 Admin” or “TF2 Mod”? How should we go about this? Thoughts? YouTube Channel Our YouTube Channel has long since been dead but with our expansion to other games I think this is a great opportunity for us to put it to use. I have recently started doing Friday Night Gaming and hope to do some other things in the future. I intend to record them, should we upload things like that as well as MC things? What should we put on our YouTube? Subreddit/Mumble/IRC Subreddit: Do we intend to stay at /r/mcpublic or should we transition to /r/nerdnu or something else? IRC: Do you think we should stay at #RedditMC or move to #NerdNu? Mumble: Should we keep mumble as “Reddit Public” or rebrand it as NerdNu Mumble? (Im not sure the technicalities on Mumble) Steam Group A lot of people have Steam nowadays and I think that we need should putting a lot more focus into our Steam Group. How can we better utilize it to interact with the community and organize things? Right now it’s not doing a whole lot when we should be greatly utilizing it. Community Tag Should we use some sort of community/clan tag to help recognize each other as well as help show people we are apart of a community? Such as "nerd | SwitchViewz" or "nnu | SwitchViewz" etc.
  6. Yes I'll have a channel in Mumble for it. I'll also be recording. Were still 2 and a half hours out though. Updated main post to reflect this.
  7. This is just my opinion, but one of the biggest problems I think is that this is a PvE Server and that the vE part is not emphasized enough. Every Rev it is generally the same thing: Land rush, build infrastructure, build city/town, host events, rev ends. I think there needs to be a much bigger focus on the "vs Environment" part. We aren't fighting other players we are fighting the environment but the environment really is not that deadly. We don't fear going outside or fear the creeper next to that building over there.
  8. https://nerd.nu/forums/topic/3031-friday-night-gaming/ When: Friday February 6th at 6PM PST/9PM EST (Time Converter) Game: Team Fortress 2 Mode: Undecided, possible candidates: Vanilla, MvM, x10, other Length: 2 Hour Where: Mumble/Steam
  9. SwitchView EDIT: Did not realize I was already on it..
  10. Hey there everyone, with our recent transformation from RedditMC to Nerd.nu I am going to try doing a variety of different things to help get us out there and playing more games! The first thing I'm going to start doing is hosting weekly game nights where a bunch of us can get together and play some games together. Hopefully lots of people will join me and if not, I'll be playing anyway. If I don't happen to own the game then hopefully I can find someone else to host. I plan to do this at least once every week on either Friday or Saturday in the evenings. In the future I will do different events such as a 5 hour Civ 5 game, or possibly a staff vs players CS:GO Match. I have a variety of different ideas I hope to do in the future with this. If you have any comments/suggestions/feedback please PM me, message me on IRC, or find me in Mumble! I would love to hear other peoples thoughts and ideas! The first one will be this Friday and the game we will be playing is Team Fortress 2. When: Friday February 6th at 6PM PST/9PM EST (Time Converter) Game: Team Fortress 2 Mode: Undecided, possible candidates: Vanilla, MvM, x10, other Length: 2 Hours Where: Mumble/Steam Recording: No
  11. I am not disagreeing with you here as I also think the group should be ran/managed by staff members. There seems to be some revolt though against non staff members running the group/managing the group. I don't think this is the right attitude to have. d3north put good effort into making the group and getting things set up and is showing he wants to get the ball rolling. Why are we trying to crush this? If we intend to go into other games and possibly other servers we are going to have to most likely appoint people that are not currently on staff to manage some things. Whether this be the steam group, a tf2 server admin, or something else, we need to branch out. We can't have a closed mind and only want to appoint people currently on staff. We need this cleared up though as we can't have two groups called "Nerd.nu Gaming" as it'll only cause confusion.

  15. We are here to play a game just like you and everyone else on the server is. What is the point of playing the game when we are always being told to be professional when we try to do something silly such as this hottub. You guys sit here and accuse of us not allowing fun and not allowing players or staff to have a good time. It is even in your signature. Yet, when we do something fun or silly, such as this hot tub, we are criticized and told it is creepy or inappropriate and that we need to act professional. Wait, we don't allow fun, but if we do, its inappropriate and we need to be professional? When the last staff meeting was held I made a pretty big point out of this. This is a game! We, just like you, and everyone that players here, is to have fun! How are we supposed to have fun when we are constantly being told that we don't allow fun yet we need to act professional.
  16. Not sure if we can still toss game ideas in but I have been really into Space Engineers lately and so have a few other nerd.nu people. I've been hosting a private server for us and been having a blast.
  17. Hey there forhiti3, your ban is 3+ years old and quite ancient. As always we ask that you read the rules before joining the servers. You've been unbanned! Merry Christmas!
  18. Merry Christmas Everyone! I honestly don't know what I would do without all of you.

  21. TF2 seems to be pretty popular among the community and played often by lots of people. I'm on board for a TF2 Server. TTT is also pretty popular but seems to have died down recently. Not sure if this is related but I know during the general nerd.nu meeting minigames for minecraft seemed pretty popular. I'm not sure what the status on that is but it seems to have died out, might be good to discuss that here or in another thread.
  22. I can't comment why Aca was made a sadmin but I can say that she wasn't made a sadmin just to become a head admin. There is no such structure and things don't work like that. It has been the tradition that players go from Player -> Mod -> Admin - > Head but that is tradition. There is no set way in stone. If staff wanted to we could promote a moderator to a head admin if we felt that was needed.
  23. If this is an ongoing issue and it appears to be by kittypuppet's logs, then instead of posting them publicly on the forum going after a fellow player, you need to approach a cadmin or a head admin about this. At the very least make a /modreq or contact a online staff member at the time. If no staff members are online I would suggest searching mumble or IRC, I myself am always in mumble and IRC and many others are to. So please bring this to the attention of staff if your being affected by it.
