  1. Thanks for the suggestion, Hundreds. There is now a warp sign to KOTV at the bottom of spawn, on the notice board area that was previously empty. There will also be one added for the arena event. Expanding upon LadyRavenOwl's previous statement, warp sign actions are written to the logs, so we can very definitely track abuse of them to avoid PvP. So hopefully having them there won't be an issue.
  2. Also, I believe Mrloud has plans to paste in and set up a public arena, which would be protected.
  3. Well, we already have SAL (lack of scheduled tournaments so far notwithstanding)—which has fancy prizes as a large attraction. Though I don't see why you couldn't start a completely player-run league using a public arena. That's how FISA works on PvE. There isn't any official staff involvement in the matches or organization of the spleef tournaments, and any awards are entirely fronted by donations or entry fees in the case of the recent Spleef Club event. (One interesting thing to try would be a clan vs. clan league.) I would recommend using a name other than SALT though, to prevent confusion with SAL.
  4. I was asked this question by another player (I can't remember who) much earlier in the rev. (I think they wanted to tape their mouse button now so they could mine while holding a drink.) I brought it up in /mb and it was okayed, either by a padmin or totemo or slide or someone adminny, despite my initial misgivings. True. Also, I believe some high-end mice have macro support. You could set one to repeatedly click at a certain speed. It's not a client modification, and there isn't really a practical way to detect it unless they go and tell someone about it.
  5. JudgeDread, LadyRavenOwl and I (well, mostly JudgeDread) ran through a refresher course for Mumber. He should be more or less up-to-speed now.
  6. Aw. You've been an awesome rockstar techadmin, and all around great guy. You're not leaving entirely, though, right? PvE wouldn't be the same without you.
  7. I usually give flow requests a high priority, as I'm aware that the wait can hold up players' plans. (There's also a standing policy for staff to not flow their own water until pending modreqs are completed.) The turnaround time does seem to be faster on PvE, as there are frequently more moderators online, which I suppose is an issue. I agree with meno, though. Do a /list-all and see where the moderators are. If there's nobody on your server to complete your request, you can use /pve (or the appropriate server command) to jump over and ask if someone isn't too busy to come over and complete the request. I would like to see, if it's something the techs could feasibly implement, a command that allows moderators to check open modreqs on other servers. (A counterpart to /list-all and the server-hopping commands.) So they could see if there are waiting reqs open on another server and switch to complete them if they've been left unattended for awhile.
  8. Hoppers are indeed mysterious beasts, even in single player. I spent hours trying to do a 50/50 split for an iron grinder, with half going into a public chest and the other half going into a region-locked chest. (The drops had a bias to one side of the collector, and I wanted it to be true 50/50.) One would assume that you could just have two hoppers coming out of a chest, but the game distributes it funny and just dumps it through one hopper. I ended up having to use item detectors and an RS-NOR latch to alternate powering hoppers.
  9. Forget rails...frigging redstone. A little bit of water can wipe out a complex circuit, which generally can't be rolled back directly. It's tedious enough to fix with Watson outlines, and absolutely terrible without. It happens quite a lot already with self-harvesting farms. Someone punches a block out and lets the water flood into the circuit.
  10. I saw that quoted recently (in the Kingkiller Chronicle subreddit, of course!) and had that exact thought, Dray. It's such a badass intro. Oh, and welcome back, Mumber!
  11. The Art of War - "unce unce unce unce unce" The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes - "No shit, Sherlock." The Lies of Locke Lamora - "Smarter and cleverer than everyone else." Fahrenheit 451 - "There must be something in books, something we can’t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. You don’t stay for nothing." Suggestions: The Eye of the World (book one of The Wheel of Time) 1984 The Name of the Wind Malazan (I forget the name of the first book) The Way of Kings The Dresden Files
  12. I look forward to hearing the recording. Its too bad I wasn't able to make it to the meeting. I really like the idea.
  13. You can do it with a WE selection made, too, so you can move around without worrying about the radius. /lb rollback sel block leaves since 10m And if you use the chat history through the up arrow, or copy the command to clipboard and repaste it, it's no harder than using WorldEdit.
  14. I can get behind that. I prefer to celebrate Yule and Saturnalia. They're kind of underground, though. You may not have heard of them.
  15. I can see it now: totemo will fly around on his reindeer and deliver coal to griefers.
  16. I like the customary "don't be a dick" sign. It's succinct, and captures of the tone of the kind of environment we cultivate. However, I could see setting it aside from the actual enforced rules and having a snarky "remember, don't be a dick!" sign on the way out of the room.
  17. Good ideas all around. Draykhar's right, though. It should definitely wait until we're on 1.7 across all of the servers. A lot of people don't know how to downgrade and will just be frustrated and leave.
  18. I like it too, forty_two, though I have a stylistic suggestion. How do I become a mod? Moderators on these servers are selected by existing staff, not by applications. We believe our moderation team should be composed of people who have shown themselves to be helpful, knowledgable, and mature through their actions in the community. With this in mind, the current moderators will suggest players who they believe show these traits. Play as you would normally, enjoy yourself, and you will be noticed. If, however, you believe you or someone else would make a good moderator and have as yet been overlooked, you can put a name into the form below. The current staff is not all-seeing and input from the community is invaluable to us.
  19. I'm lifting your ban as of now. Have fun crafting...just not NSFW builds or griefing, mmkay?
  20. 1. Monkey Island 2. The Witcher 3. Batman: Arkham City/Asylum/etc. (I've only played City so far, but I hear the original is just as good.) 4. Half-Life, TF2, Counter-Strike (take your pick: 1.6, Source or GO), Portal etc.. Basically, Valve games. 5. Assassin's Creed, with caveats. I've only played II and Brotherhood. There's no functional Mac port of Revelations still, and I have no interest in III. 6. Bioshock 7. LEGO Star Wars
  21. Usually they last several months. Survival tends to iterate revs more freqently than PvE. The rev on PvE is still fairly new, so it's going to have plenty of time left on it. Survival is in the process of transitioning to a new rev at the moment, which is why it's in temporary chaos mode.
  22. I went with a square because I didn't want to manually round the corners in Photoshop. :P If only Minecraft applied a mask to the icons, like Apple does with the iPhone. (If you use a square image for an app icon, it rounds the corners for you.)
  23. I think it's a great idea. Just one suggestion...why not make it a proper blog instead of using Google Docs? You could plunk down a Jekyll blog on GitHub Pages or use WordPress.com or something. It would be more visible and easier to read.
  24. I imagine molon hats will be popular...
