  1. Hey SkrapssparkS! We missed you at the general mumble meeting, we talked a bit about this. A couple points that were brought up in the meeting: 1. Most of the community seemed in favor of opening a minigames server. 2. A Minigames server would probably be beneficial for both C and S, for building maps and getting familiar with pvp. 3. The creative gametype is wildly popular on other servers, so I don't think it's a matter of people not liking creative mode. Also, to be fair, this is a bad time for player counts. It's Monday/Tuesday, it's 5-8am in America and it's noon in the UK, so no one's started playing. And it's getting late in Australia on a weeknight. No matter how good our player count gets, this is going to be the lowest point. But our Australian player count does seem to have gone down.
  2. Actually, only admins were able to do that (have it be removed from the other person's inbox as well). I think this has been changed recently, though. Some conversations that were previously deleted by admins are back in my inbox again, just marked as "Deleted." The silent editing of posts is still the case, though.
  3. Why would this be horrible normally? At the rate nerd gets donations, it would happen once a week, MAX.
  4. Because one of the main topics of the meeting is "donations and how to encourage donations". I know my opinion on something like "Forum Badges" really depends on the financial state of the server. If we're doing okay, then I'm against it, but if we're really hard up for money, then we need to do whatever we can to encourage donations. In fact, my answers to that entire section depend on how well the server is doing financially. Depends on the financial state of the server. Depends on the financial state of the server. We could take more drastic action, depending on the financial state of the server. Depends on the financial state of the server.
  5. I mean, we've tried the "Survival-mode building with pvp enabled" for 25 revisions. The reason they tried something new for Rev 26 was because that gameplay was clearly not appealing anymore.
  6. I think all of these issues have solutions, but most of them require time and effort on the part of the admins. I'm absolutely thrilled to have you back, S needs present, thoughtful and communicative staff, and you've been all three over the last couple weeks. Hey, we're not trying to start an argument. We all want S to succeed. I certainly enjoyed the playstyle we tried last revision, and I'm sure I'll enjoy going back to this "plain vanilla" playstyle as well. But in order for S to succeed, it needs to offer something that can't be gotten on PvE or Creative, or people will just play there, where the community is bigger. Survival doesn't have to be a hardcore-pvp-raiding server, but I do hope that it doesn't just end up being a clone of PvE with the worldguard pvp flag set to deny allow. If it doesn't differentiate itself from PvE, people will just play on the one with the larger community.
  7. No offence intended, but this sounds quite boring. It sounds like a PvE clone with minor changes. Half of Minecraft is building grinders and mining for ores... if ores are plumped and some enchants disabled, aren't you worried that people will be maxed-out within only a couple hours of play time? Then they'll have nothing to do except PvP, and unless you can keep the PvP going 24/7, people will start leaving because there'll be nothing to do when the PvP stops.
  8. This is the default behavior of the worldborder plugin. It tries to move you back a configurable number of blocks, and if there is no free space, it looks for a safe spot to put you up the Y-level. If that fails, it teleports you to spawn. This seems like reasonable behavior to me. What would you prefer it did, if it can't find a safe space to place you backwards?
  9. Personally, I would not play a revision that doesn't have enchantments. But (unlike some people :P) I understand if you decide that what is best for the community is to go with something I don't like.
  10. I don't think I've ever read a more loaded question :P
  11. What would be busywork about it? Nerd only has a few expenses, and most of them do not vary from month to month. A single blurb on nerd.nu/donate that just says "Our server costs are $230 a month for hardware, $20 a month for forum software, and $10 a month for mumble hosting" would suffice. (I pulled these numbers out of my ass)
  12. Thank you Mrloud for bringing up this topic, I think there's worthy discussion to be had. The nerd servers subsist entirely on donations, and are a charity in everything but name. Every other nonprofit I've donated to has published a list of their accounts and expenditures. I think it would be responsible of nerd to do the same. http://nerd.nu/donate says that the servers have raised $2900 in the last 6 months. I have been told that nerd's monthly expenses come to around $250. That means nerd is running a surplus of $1400 in the last 6 months. What is that extra money being used for? Could it be used for advertising? If we're running such a large surplus, what's the motivation for this thread and seeking to "encourage donating"?
  13. Let's all just agree that Deaygo needs to do a better job spell checking his error messages.
  14. Definitely. But the community is bigger than just minecraft.
  15. I don't think he said that, but the community in IRC contains many people that no longer play in-game. Right now, this is the population of IRC: Half these people haven't been seen in-game in months.
  16. God I wish we still had downvotes
  17. The only threads that I've seen involving unhappy players are about the changes to survival. The changes are pretty drastic, so people that liked the original Survival aren't going to be happy about the changes. (Personally I love almost every recent change to Survival, but I understand people's complaints) Saying that these people are only complaining to cause trouble is frankly rude and very dismissive of their legitimate complaints. Take a look at this: http://nerd.nu/usage/survival/ The people that are complaining have some of the highest play-times on the server. They're passionate about the server because they're so heavily invested in it. Please don't dismiss their concerns like this.
  18. I think this discussion would be better suited to a mumble meeting.
  19. I couldn't have said it better than jchance. Our first priority when designing spawn should be to convince them that they want to play here. So spawn should showcase the building talent of the playerbase, explain how to get started, then get out of the way. Demanding that a new person be intimately familiar with every rule and every rule's edge cases before they've even decided to stay is a good way to scare people away.
