  1. We should point out here that staff members on the inactive list generally revoke their moderator privileges during their absence(s), thus once on the list cannot immediately jump into "staff things" again. Staff members on this list wishing to rejoin the team generally go through a quick in-house discussion as to whether or not they retain the previously assessed qualities to perform staff-related duties and a recap of training if said discussion is a positive one. (EDIT: This is a recap of the current rational towards players on the inactive list wishing to rejoin the active list, just for clarification)
  2. The punishment is intended to be the ban duration, this is true. Appeals are made public for several other reasons: To ensure that the staff operates in a fair manner, where he/she/they cannot simply brush a ban under the carpet, and so that others can see the rational behind a ban's implementation & its length. To give a public record of the ban itself, to inform the community that a player has committed an infraction against the rules. To serve as a constant reminder to the community that all actions have consequences, emphasizing respect for the rules to the community. To determine if a player has learned anything from their time spent away from the server, such as which actions they need to avoid to prevent a subsequent banning. To provide a place for additional information to be brought into an appeal's process which might otherwise not be available. Circumstances unknown to staff members & the like. Those are just a few of the other reasons, but as a few other people have mentioned the "shaming" involved can be a legitimate part of the punishment. We have no way of knowing what a player is doing during the time they're banned from the servers. They could be off on another server doing the same thing. They could just not be playing Minecraft. This ties in with my (thus-far unposted) feelings towards temporary/timed bans, that someone could be completely unaffected by what's intended to be a learning experience. The appeal itself is a check to ensure that a player is ready to return to the community. It should therefore be observed by the community as a whole, in the event some other circumstance becomes relevant. That's not to say that the community should determine an appeal's result, far from it, but.... I lack the words. Perhaps someone else has them, or I'll find them in the morning.
  3. Well Zom, as you may remember from past revisions, players from P or S have in the past claimed a semi-large area for testing build designs, redstone devices, all sorts of things. They claim these areas on their own, as it should be. To create an area specifically for a group of people to use, with minor exceptions, would show favoritism to that group from the people who create the map (Exceptions such as the Redstone Towers idea or the Pixel Art warp were created with the sole purposes of minimizing incredibly spammy creations for the rest of the map). With the P/S Island player-owned/claimed areas, the only real issue becomes one of space over time. From what I've observed with Island areas in the past, P/S players generally prefer to use the area they're familiar with, as they know how to get to it easily etc etc. Eventually, the space becomes filled with wall variation ideas, or half-finished mansions, or redstone devices, or any number of other things. There are two solutions at that point: to clean up the player-owned area (of their own volition (never seen this done)) or to expand outwards. On the next revision, or even on the current one, why don't you take up the initiative to create an area for P players to use? Find a valley, or build a large fence, something along those lines. As time goes on, pop in to check on the area, make sure there's enough room, check with players if they still need the space, etc etc. This isn't to say that anyone can't build wherever they like, but bringing back a player-run/created Island area would be a nice idea.
  4. (Crocodile noises mixed with mild quacking) Why don't we talk anymore?
  5. Couple of us were wondering why the map's been expanded so soon. There's a ton of space left within the previous expansion, people're all in the middle of larger projects, and there simply isnt a need for it to've happened. What's up with that?
  6. You're a little late to the discussion diff, as the "glory days" you refer to are from well over a year ago, if not two. The problems facing C concerning a growing playerbase stem from the same problems facing all of our servers: a lack of advertisement. A discussion on how to draw in more players began several months back, and a new one was just finalized: https://nerd.nu/forums/index.php?/topic/1966-ac-advertising-on-rmcservers/?hl=advertising
  7. What you got against archers, mate?
  8. That'd work too, but should extend to dropper/hopper etc as well, as people'll get crafty with giving themselves items.
  9. At the end of every revision on creative, as most of us know, we host a Chaos mode, in which we first go for a few days in survival mode, scavenging materials from buildings, triggering traps, destroying things by hand, and afterwards destroy the map again in creative mode with the aid of unlimited tnt. During the Chaos mode, all player's data is reset, inventories wiped, all teleport aspects removed (homes, warps, etc), and the player position reset to the spawnpoint. However, there are many people who ignore the spirit of starting from scratch to tear down an empire. These people make stashes of armor, food, tnt, etc, all over the map, usually in bedrock bunkers to survive the onslaught of tnt waves. They hide these stashes in the hopes of using them to gain an advantage over all other players during the survival mode of Chaos. Personally, I'm of the belief that such actions defeat the purpose of the survival mode of Chaos, that inventories are deliberately wiped for a fresh start. It's one thing for controlled stashes to be put into place- the odd 3 blocks of tnt, a piece of diamond armor, simple stuff like that. However, time & again I've seen people with inventories full of tnt, glitched pieces of enchanted armor, and other things that players who wanted to survive with what they've spent months working on simply cannot compete against. These people & the actions they take quite simply ruin the fun of Chaos mode. The arguement could be made that such wild cards keep it interesting, but I find that hard to support when 2-3 such players seal off the spawn & chase down whoever exits it. As a solution to this issue I've seen, I propose the following: In addition to player data resets, the Chaos map should have all chests removed that'd been previously placed, as well as large groups of other storage-related items. This can be done very easily with a worldedit filter. Players can have their massive amounts of tnt & over-powered armor during the creative Chaos mode. Leave the survival mode timeframe for surviving.
  10. Are you an Elephant on Parade, or are you a group of Elephants in a Parade?
  11. 1: Are you my father? 2: Scale of 1-10, how good do these glasses look on this dog? http://s1.favim.com/orig/24/animals-cute-dog-dogs-glasses-Favim.com-217746.jpg 3: Are you a fan of giant robots? 4: Is it wrong that the first time I saw your name, I imagined Barney the Dinosaur in a cyclone?
  12. Oi, Sega. You've done it now. The president's in tears, the crochet chimichanga is in ruins, and it's hot as balls out. What do you have to say for yourself? Also, be home by 9, your mother has an excellent pie.
  13. Just want to clarify that I meant that seeing other players so well-established/fortified is a majorly imposing factor for new players. Gives them a sense that they're no match for such a force, and shouldn't bother trying. Not to say that no newer players will attack fully armored players immediately after running out of the spawn, but that it puts them off a bit. There's also the variant of players who, after fighting & losing against a fully armored opponent immediately after running out of the spawn, simply don't respawn & leave.
  14. One of the real, inevitable problems with S is that, by the end of the first week, there's always at least one major group fully equiped with diamond gear, horses, farms etc. Everyone else by that point either is on their way to that status, controlling land/resources, or is already embroiled in feudal wars among themselves (and any passers-by). S loses the majority of its appeal to new players after this first week, as new players recognize the enormous difficulty of striking out on their own, avoiding constant attacks on their person as they leave populated areas, finding "safe" unpopulated areas, and just surviving against overwhelming forces in general. There really isnt anything wrong with S's current gameplay features- the problem lies in the nature of the gameplay itself.
  15. You never returned my crayons. I demand a Periwinkle one.
  16. As a small suggestion, it should be a customized nether, either with a more-open series of caverns, or without a roof. would make getting around easier, even in a limited area as I'm guessing it will be. 1: Builds can be moved in the event of a land dispute, and for no other reason. If someone's building too close to you, ask them to back off. If they don't, and you were clearly there first, modreq to inform a staff member of the situation. Don't get your hopes up and think the new structure will be moved/removed, more likely than not it'll simply be agreed on that neither of you will build toward each other further. 2: Builds are not moved/removed just because one dislikes them. If they're clearly imposing on the surrounding/supporting landscape of your build, or are built smack on your build, they can be modreq'd to be moved. Otherwise (and being blunt here), live with it. 3: In the past, and even now for many servers, enabling alternative dimensions & subsequently generating new maps can cause serious issues. While it's possible for our servers to handle them, that doesn't mean that they wont impact the overall performance of the servers. It's a delicate balance, you need to understand that Tim. In regard to the warps, it'd be great to have a Nether/End dimension. However, in my personal opinion they should be treated as something special, a treat, a reward. They should be used for events & the like, a change of scenery to really bring up morale. In regards to the End specifically, we're going to have issues, I can see it already. Someone's going to get the bright idea to (on a regular basis) destroy every block they can get their hands on, subsequently disabling building except in previously claimed areas. Should the End be enabled for general use, a provision against this should be put in place. Such examples of solutions are enabling a block generation command for players within the End dimension (spawning a block under them, on a timer like the rule book's, replacing air with enderstone), or having an admin generate a random cloud of matter every/every-other day.
  17. In the kindest sense, please remove your hindquarters from my presence. In a less-kind sense, get your ass out of here. No one is interested in your games, least of all those of us who wrote the rules for said games.
  18. Don't really have one. Fan of the GundamInfo channel, they put out some harder-to-find stuff. ERB's always good, Hank & Jed, CardGamesFTW, Faulerro, TeamFourStar..... Muffins. Frosted Strawberry poptarts.
  19. 1: Underwear? 2: More sea life, definitely. Gimme something on par (in amount of interest) to the Water Temple. Give me angler fish that'll gnaw off my legs as I swim around. Give me Crocodiles/Alligators/Fancy Feast Beasts (Cyotie). Give me coral, or at least seaweed for god's sake! Give me jellyfish, give me pirates, give me seagulls to crap on my shiny just-washed minecart! 3: That's a tough one, mostly because I'd never LIVE in a mech. 20-40 feet tall'd be good enough, trademark dober cannons, buster rifle, wings, transformation features, some sort of Bit system, and of course Radial General Purpose systems. Oh, and a nuclear reactor. Cause you know, that much more power, and potential destruction. Google it all. 4: Too many to choose from.... First instinct is to go to the Gundam shelf, but that's a given. Aside from that, probably Black Butler, A Certain Magical Index, Detective Conan, Fairy Tail, DBZ, or FMA. 5: For day-day activities? Got a nice old fedora to wear around. Got one for nicer occasions too. On principle? Top hat. 6: Chicago, for the heart. Ireland/England/Canada, for the peace/weather. Jersey for the Giant Robot Cars. 7: Eh, hard one. Costco/Home Depot./Shop Rite. Mock up of a mobile suit i toyed with four years ago. made others since then, but just enjoy the shape of some parts of this
  20. You're nearly a year late to the party. Go somewhere else.
  21. Hard to limit it to only one thing.... but I'd either re-implement player-entity physics or spruce up the sea life....in this case adding it entirely.
  22. Ban reasoning: 2013-12-14 18:00:22, attempted evade server protections, instructions how, hacked client. nerd.nu/appeal Please be patient, and another staff member will be along shortly to handle your appeal on my behalf, as I am no longer a staff member of the community. Should note, however, that in addition to threatening & attempting to use in-game named methods to lag out the server, as well as attempting to construct a "Griefing Academy" in-game to instruct the masses on how to cause servers various issues (as well as semi-useless methods of covering up their tracks), the user is associated with (what was until this instance in Decemeber) a dormant griefing/hacking team, "GriefCon." (This in addition to the demonstrated uses of said methods. Server logs will reflect.) The actions taken by this user were witnessed by several administrators & moderators, including (but not limited to) myself, Buzzinbee, MasterCommaThe, joshuaherman (short time), and Dumbo52.
  23. 1 in-game tile -> 2x2 block area. Or 2x2x2 block area. Up to you, use your best judgement.
